Authorities are currently on the lookout for a businessman after his wife was found stabbed and his 15-year-old daughter doused in fuel at their £500,000 countryside home. Investigators are still trying to locate John Cowley in connection with both shocking incidents that took place in the village of Mawdsley, close to Ormskirk, West Lancashire. The 63-year-old Cowley was described as a white male, 5ft 8in tall with grey hair. He was last spotted wearing a light blue polo shirt and dark blue jeans. Authorities were called to the scene by paramedics on October 10 at around 5:45 pm after they were informed that Alison Cowley had been stabbed and was being treated for her injuries.

The Daily Mail reported that the 50-year-old mother suffered from several stab wounds to her abdomen area and was taken to a nearby hospital after being airlifted out of the area.

It is reported that she is still in a serious condition but is now stable. Medical staff have said that her injuries are not life-threatening.

Authorities believe that she was assaulted outside a particular address in Mawdsley. A car that belonged to Allison was also found scorched by fire at the address in Moody Lane. Authorities also revealed on October 15 certain details of the attack on the teen daughter, who has not been harmed aside from being drenched in fuel.

Investigators have appealed for help from the public in trying to find Cowley but have warned not to approach him. One of the neighbors said on October 14 that she would regularly bump into the businessman while they were out walking their dogs.

She said: "He was always great with me. He just seemed a nice, friendly chap. He lives at the property with his wife Alison, and their teenage daughter. They just seemed like a normal, happy couple. He loves fishing and sometimes if he caught something he would drop it off with me."

The neighbor said that she first found about what happened when she saw smoke coming from the direction of where Cowley and his family lived. She said: "I assumed he was burning materials. Everybody's in shock over what's happened."

Detective Superintendent Claire McEnery of the Lancashire Police said in a statement: "We are continuing to work hard to trace John Cowley and to speak to him about what are very serious offenses."

He continued: "We believe that this was a targeted attack and while we would ask that if anyone sees John they do not approach him but report sightings to the police, we do not believe that there is any significant on-going risk to the wider public. I would urge anyone who has seen him, or a man matching his description, to contact police immediately. I would also urge John himself to hand himself in if he sees this appeal."

Members of the public who have any information regarding Cowley's whereabouts are requested to call the authorities on 101 quoting log number 1091 of October 10 and call 999 for an immediate sighting of the man. An alternative way to let the authorities know is to contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
