WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden was roasted on social media after he struggled to deliver a televised address to the American public from the Oval Office on Thursday, October 19, 2023, night during which he discussed several international issues.

The speech was replete with moments of awkwardness as the President appeared to struggle with his teleprompter and stumbled over some of his words.

Joe Biden loses to teleprompter again

The address began with an uncomfortable pause as Biden seemed unaware that the camera was on for several seconds.

He used this rare address to pledge continued support for both Israel and Ukraine in their defense of their territories, emphasizing the potential consequences of failing to do so.

Biden stated, "Hamas and Putin represent different threats. But they share this in common. They both want to completely annihilate a neighboring democracy. I know we have our divisions at home. We have to get past them. We can’t let petty partisan angry politics get in the way of our responsibility as a great nation. We cannot and will not let terrorists like Hamas and tyrants like Putin win."

During the speech, the President appeared to struggle with his teleprompter, with moments where he seemed to be reading instructions from the screen, such as saying, "Make it clear."

"We'll have something that we do not seek - make it clear we do not seek - we do not seek to have American troops fighting in Russia," he said while discussing the two conflicts.

In another instance, Biden made a notable slip, stating, "You're all America" before correcting himself to say, "You're all American."

Throughout the 15-minute address, First Lady Jill Biden was off-camera, watching the President deliver his remarks, as per GB News.

Social media reactions

Critics of the President quickly took to social media to comment on these gaffes.

"TFW Joe Biden's 'best speech' was little more than a smoldering pile of meaningless inanities spoon-fed via teleprompter to a mumbling, empty husk of a man," one posted on X (formerly Twitter).

"Are you mesmerized by Joe Biden’s eloquence with or without a teleprompter??" another quipped.

"Joe Biden needs to take a class on how to read off the teleprompter. That was pathetic," a comment read.

"This is not a leader. This is a disgrace," someone else wrote.

"Pray for us, we're going to need it," another added.

Israel visit and controversial statements

This address followed President Biden's visit to Israel to show support for Benjamin Netanyahu. During that trip, he also raised eyebrows with statements, including referring to Hamas militants as "the other team" during a recorded conversation with Netanyahu.

“I am deeply saddened and outraged by the explosion at the hospital in Gaza yesterday. And based on what I’ve seen, it appears it was done by the other team, and not you,” he said, publicly endorsing Israel’s version of events.

But he conceded, “There’s a lot of people out there who are not sure. So we’ve gotta overcome a lot of things.”

Some critics found this terminology inappropriate and trivializing of the conflict.
