With decades of political experience behind him, Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, after winning the elections on November 7, 2020. It is reported that Biden's majority of income has come from book deals and speaking fees. Here's a look at his net worth. 

What is Joe Biden's net worth?

Forbes has estimated Biden’s net worth at $9 million. Along with his wife, Jill, the Bidens’ wealth includes two Delaware homes valued at $4 million combined, cash and investments worth an additional $4 million and a federal pension worth over $1 million. It is reported that Biden's majority of income has come from book deals and speaking fees. Biden’s starting pay as the Senate was $42,500 a year in 1979; when he left the Senate in 2009, he was making $169,300. As vice president, his salary shot up to $230,700; he’ll be earning $400,000 as president.

Cornell Law School's Legal Information Institute states that the salary of the Presidents of the United States has been the same since 2001 when it was doubled from $200,000 to $400,000. Along with the salary, the president also receives a $50,000 expense allowance, a $100,000 non-taxable travel account and $19,000 for entertainment each year. Per the code, any unused amount from the $50,000 expense allowance must also be returned to the treasury.) Since George Washington became the first president of the United States in 1789, there have been five salary increases for the Commander-in-Chief. Washington, for his part, made $25,000 per year, which equals to $600,000 today after factoring in inflation.

Biden owns two homes in his home state Delaware, Washington DC. He will be moving to the White House from his 6,850-square foot home located in Greenville, Delaware. The property reportedly cost him $350,000 when he bought it in 1996, at this day, the cost of the house stands at nearly $1 million, as per The Sun. In 2017, he bought another house in Delaware for $2.7million. This six-bedroom house is located in Rehoboth Beach and overlooks Cape Henlopen, State Park.
