Joe Biden to be sworn in as President with 5-inch family heirloom Bible, Internet hopes 'Hunter didn’t use it'
On Wednesday, January 20, Joe Biden will be swearing-in as the new President of the US. For the special event, the 78-year-old will reportedly use his five-inch family heirloom Bible to take the oath of office. It has been said that the holy book has been with Biden's family since 1893 and it comes from his paternal side that has English and Irish roots. The Democrat, who will be the second Catholic president, told ‘The Late Show’ host, Stephen Colbert, during an interview in December 2019 that during his inauguration as the 46th president of America, his wife Dr Jill Biden will hold the Bible. At the time, Colbert even joked that if the incoming future first lady had been "working out" since she will be carrying the heavy 127-year-old family heirloom on January 20.
Reports said that Biden has used the same Bible for all his swearing-in including the times when he became the US Vice President. In November 1972, soon after he was elected as a Delaware senator, a car crash happened that killed his former wife and a toddler daughter. The accident also injured the pair’s two sons. At the time, Biden did not want to leave his kids’ side in the hospital, so he used the same family Bible to take the oath while being in the hospital. Besides, when Biden’s late son Beau, who died in 2015 because of brain cancer, became the attorney general of Delaware, he also used the Bible for his swearing-in ceremony.
Biden’s Bible has made a lot of commotion on the internet also with one person saying, “Should have been reading it when his son was stealing all that money overseas.” Another person tweeted, “Hopefully Hunter didn’t use this bible.” “What time we startin? Ion wanna see the bs. I want hands to bible expeditiously! Also if I could get a fan cam of old donnie leaving on loop please. #InaugurationDay,” the third added. However, this is not the first time any President-elect is using the family Bible to take oath. Earlier, John F. Kennedy - the first Catholic President - also used a family Bible for his swearing-in.

Meanwhile, reports claimed that Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris will be using two Bibles for her swearing-in. One holy book is the late Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, while the other belonged to Regina Shelton, a close family friend whom Harris thought of as a “second mother.” On Twitter, she wrote: “When I raise my right hand and take the oath of office tomorrow, I carry with me two heroes who’d speak up for the voiceless and help those in need: Justice Thurgood Marshall and Mrs. Shelton.”
“I know I'm going to cry...... Madam Vice President Kamala Harris. So proud,” one person commented on Harris’ post. “Already tearing up reading this. We are getting our country back. I’m going to be a damn emotional mess tomorrow,” another person said. “I can’t wait! Setting my alarm clock on the other side of the planet to watch history being made!” the third one added.
