The Washington Post is being mocked for its headline that called the coronavirus relief bill a 'defining move' of Joe Biden’s presidency, 'sharply cutting' poverty by 'showering money' on Americans. Titled 'Biden stimulus showers money on Americans, sharply cutting poverty in defining move of presidency', the story is being criticized for the poor choice of words that some have called “creepy” and “worthy of North Korea.”

The Post described Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package, which passed the Senate on Saturday, March 6, as one of the 'most generous expansions of aid to the poor in recent history'. Americans will start receiving their direct payments of $1,400 this month. The move faced flak recently as Biden cut off stimulus checks to those Americans who make more than $80,000 and excluded couples who make more than $160,000. The Internet slammed the use of the term 'showers', noting the exaggeration of the article's headline. "Correction: Biden showers bullshit on Americans, further cutting his own credibility."

'Creepy headline worthy of North Korea'

Senator Rand Paul's wife Kelley dwelt on the strange nature of the headline, saying: "Creepy headline worthy of North Korea. Jeff Bezos’ Washington Post letting us know all is well — keep taking your Soma, watching Netflix, and ordering from Amazon, because Biden is “showering” us with money!"

"If it were really Biden's stimulus, he would be paying for it (maybe out of his China funds). I suspect though, that if Biden ever does shower people, it will be golden," said a tweet. "Shower? $1400 right now is like going to the strip club with a roll of quarters. biden is making it hail," said another.

'Not a shower, a drop in the bucket'

Netizens wondered how the president's 'showering' of $1400 makes a difference when communities are taking a financial hit. "Biden “showers” with stimulus according to @washingtonpost! Are you F*****G kidding me. Sorry NOT sorry and please do bring this up in the debates with @RepStephenLynch. But this is absolute bullshit. Our communities are SUFFERING. This is not a shower it’s a DROP in the bucket. "Showers?! The biden stimulus ain't even making it drizzle," said another. "Americans are instead getting drips instead of "showers" of financial help. The ones getting financially showered are the countries that used dominion software to help Biden cheat to "win" the Presidency. That money is being given as a payback. A "thank you" from Biden," said a tweet.

'Journalism in America is dead'

"What in the actual f**k? “Showers money on America’s...” it’s $1400, which is $600 short of the promise that was already too little and far too late. Journalism in America is dead. #Biden," said a tweet. "Showers money? M*********R people are losing their homes where they take showers at and a funky a** $1400 isn't doing shit to stop that. I'm glad Biden was able to get some relief passed, we all are, but GTFOH with this trash a** headline. Mission is far from accomplished," said another. "The headline should read: Biden’s stimulus showers money on Americans with their own money," a Twitter user noted.
