Joe Biden attended Mass with his family on Sunday, January 24, but stopped his motorcade on the way back home so his son Hunter could buy some bagels.

According to the press pool, the presidential motorcade stopped for almost 10 minutes on the way home from church in Georgetown. Meanwhile, the President's second son waited for several minutes at the window of the bagel shop 'Call Your Mother' to pick up a takeaway order.

Biden remained in the motorcade with Hunter's daughters Finnegan and Maisy for the entire duration of the detour. According to The Atlantic's Edward-Isaac Dovere, Biden's coronavirus response director Jeff Zients is a major investor in the deli.

Supporters of Biden, including a number of Washington, DC, reporters, gushed over the moment on Twitter. "President Biden just left @CYM_DC in Georgetown after leaving mass at Holy Trinity. A Secret Service agent placed and picked up the order. Biden never exited his motorcade but did wave to a crowd of cheering onlookers," NBC reporter Tom Lynch wrote.

"This is the excellent Call Your Mother bagelry-deli in Georgetown, where Biden family stopped today. Pastrami excellent. One of first local outings by this President," historian Michael Beschloss added.

"En route back from church, Biden diverted motorcade so Hunter Biden could make a food run at Call Your Mother, arguably the best bagel shop in DC. Hunter stood at the window several minutes for the takeout order as his dad and daughters waited in the car, per pooler @TomDeFrank," Washington Post reporter Matt Viser tweeted.

"Biden has now visited the same number of restaurants that Donald Trump did in his entire four years in office. The former President never dined anywhere in DC other than the steakhouse in his Pennsylvania Avenue hotel," another Washington Post reporter Seung Min Kim chimed in.

"Quite a ruckus when the President has a hankering for a delicious bagel sandwich. ⁦@JoeBiden⁩ stops by my corner bagel shop Call Your Mother for a Sunday nosh," economist Joel Hellman wrote.

"That endearing yellow house next to Call Your Mother was where @VeenaRaiji and I brought home our two kids, celebrated countless milestones, and fondly said goodbye to a charming chapter in our lives. Thanks @JoeBiden @POTUS for this unexpected reminder of the beauty of DC," a user reacted.

It's worth noting that several presidents have been spotted eating out in Washington, DC. George W Bush was known to often eat in Georgetown while Barack Obama was once spotted at Ben’s Chili Bowl — a food landmark in what was once a primarily African American neighborhood.

Bill Clinton was known to visit several restaurants in DC, including The Bombay Club, a famous outlet located near the White House. Biden's predecessor, however, rarely ventured out in the city owing to his perennially-packed itnerary. Several political correspondents noted on Sunday how Trump rarely ventured out in the city other than to his own hotel, or spent weekends out of DC at one of his several golf courses.

“The Bidens’ stop at Call Your Mother, the bagel shop in Georgetown, en route back to the White House — already a big change. Trying to remember but can't recall Trump ever stopping anywhere in DC other than his own hotel," Peter Baker of the New York Times tweeted.
