NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden recently said that Russian President Vladimir Putin was not joking about using nuclear weapons in Ukraine. He also said Armageddon was the highest it had been since the Cuban missile crisis. He put forth this warning at a fundraising event for Democrats at the home of James Murdoch, son of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, in New York City. Biden's warning comes at a time when there are growing fears that Putin could use tactical nuclear weapons to push back Ukrainian forces.

"We’ve got a guy I know fairly well," Biden said at the reception for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, according to the Daily Mail. "He's not joking when he talks about potential use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons because his military is — you might say — significantly underperforming."

Biden told his audience to not be fooled by the idea that smaller, tactical weapons were not a major threat to the world. "I don't think there's any such thing as the ability to easily [use] a tactical nuclear weapon and not end up with Armageddon," he said.

In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have successfully pushed back Russian forces. In the wake of such progress on the Ukrainians' part, several leaders believe Putin could use weapons of mass destruction. "First time since the Cuban missile crisis, we have the threat of a nuclear weapon if, in fact, things continue down the path they are going," the President said.

Officials have not yet noticed a change in Russia's nuclear posture, but they wonder how Putin could be pushed to give up. Biden said, "We are trying to figure out, what is Putin’s off-ramp? Where does he find a way out? Where does he find himself where he does not only lose face but significant power?"

Before Biden spoke about Putin and the risk of nuclear weapons, the focus had been on the event's location. The location, notably, is the home of a family known for its alliance with the Republican Party. Poking a little fun at the family, Biden said, "This is not your father’s Republican Party." He described how Trump's influence had triggered assaults on places such as the Supreme Court and the White House.
