Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has slammed Donald Trump once again for his inability to properly handle the Covid-19 pandemic, in response to an article released by CNN describing a rise in cases as some states reopen. The tweet has once again stirred up a debate between voters who follow Biden online.

The CNN article in question quotes Dr Peter Hotez, the dean of tropical medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, who says that if the US continues on its path of rising cases, the country will be facing "one of the most unstable times in the history of our country." Joe Biden retweeted the article, adding, "Donald Trump is the worst possible person to lead us through this moment. We need real leadership, right now. Lives are at stake."

This is not the first time Biden has criticized Trump's handling of the pandemic, nor will it be the last. The US recently hit a world record in terms of daily coronavirus cases, and as Trump continues to urge the country to reopen, experts feel like the rise in cases will show no signs of slowing down. Trump has written, "For the 1/100th time, the reason we show so many cases, compared to other countries that haven’t done nearly as well as we have, is that our TESTING is much bigger and better. We have tested 40,000,000 people. If we did 20,000,000 instead, Cases would be half, etc. NOT REPORTED!"  While Trump believes that the rise in cases is only due to the rise in testing, experts disagree.

"We will have hospitals overwhelmed and not only in terms of ICU beds and hospitals — and that's bad — but exhausted hospital staff and hospital staff that's getting ill themselves," Dr Peter Hotez told CNN. "So, we won't have enough manpower, human power, to manage all of this." The tweet from Joe Biden has had many voters chiming in to voice their support or disagreement with Biden.

"Donald Trump is the reason we ARE in this moment. And yes, lives are at stake," wrote one Twitter user. "Trump needs to resign. This administration is incapable of handling this pandemic. Trump's incompetent, indifferent actions have made it worse," another shared. "He's the worst person to lead you ANYWHERE... I wouldn't let him lead me in the grocery store!!!!" said one tweet. "Donald's presidency has made a mockery of our so-called democracy while subverting the rule of law at every turn," wrote another user.

Biden's statement, of course, does not come without criticism. "Joe Biden has no idea what leadership even is, he has been in government for over 40 years and failed America at every turn!" wrote one Twitter user. "He certainly isn't leading anything. He's hiding out in his basement sending out useless tweets about how he's gonna do better," said one Biden detractor, adding, "His failure as a VP directly resulted in our unpreparedness as a nation today."

The US currently has over 3 million confirmed cases of Covid-19. Despite this, Trump continues to encourage states to reopen schools and places of business.
