Joe Biden told voters on Tuesday that he would appoint the Obamas to high office if he won the presidency in November, saying Michelle could be his running mate while Barack could serve at the Supreme Court if they wanted.

The Democratic presidential hopeful was addressing a campaign town hall in Iowa when a voter asked him if he would consider appointing the former commander-in-chief to the Supreme Court, Breitbart reports. “Yeah, I would, but I don’t think he’d do it,” Biden responded. “He’d be a great Supreme Court justice.”

Following Biden's answer, voters wanted to further clarify which member of the former first family he was talking about. The former vice president then asserted he meant Barack, since he already had other plans for his wife Michelle. “Well, I sure would like Michelle to be the vice president,” Biden said, drawing laughs from the crowd. “They’re both incredibly qualified people. I mean and they’re such decent honorable people.”

This is the second time in recent weeks Biden has flirted with the idea that the Obamas could play a leading role in his administration were he elected. In September 2019, he told The Late Show host Stephen Colbert he had already considered asking the former first lady to be his running mate. Then, in December, Biden told voters in Iowa that he would appoint Barack as a Supreme Court justice provided the former president would take him up on the offer.

Meanwhile, several of Obama's friends and supporters have yet to throw their support behind Biden. The 44th POTUS himself is reportedly not so keen to endorse his former vice president, especially after he allegedly told a rival 2020 Democrat that Biden lacked an "intimate bond" with potential voters.

Biden recently drew backlash for his conduct with a voter in Iowa. On January 28, the said individual reportedly asked Biden to not support the building of new pipelines, and the 77-year-old countered him, saying: “Go vote for someone else”.

Biden aggressively prodded the voter in his chest while confronting him after the candidate pressed him about his take on the climate change issue. He then seemed to hold the man by his lapels. It later came to light that the man, identified as Ed Fallon, served in the Iowa general assembly and leads an organization working on the climate crisis.
