Joe Biden's victory could lead to unprecedented liberalization of abortion laws, right-wing pundit says
A victory for Joe Biden in the presidential elections in November could result in an "unprecedented liberalization of abortion laws" and a sustained attack on the religious liberty of those with traditional or conservative views, a political commentator has warned.
Kevin Burke, who is a pastoral associate of 'Priests for Life' and the co-founder of 'Rachel's Vineyard,' both pro-life organizations, argued in an op-ed for right-wing website Breitbart that the numbers already showed people feared to express themselves and that it would only get worse under the Democrats.
Burke pointed to a new Cato Institute Survey that showed how nearly "two thirds -- 62 percent -- of Americans say the political climate these days prevents them from saying things they believe because others might find them offensive." It also said that "majorities of Democrats (52%), independents (59%), and Republicans (77%) all agree they have political opinions they are afraid to share.”
He said that most of the 52 percent of these Democrats will vote for Biden come November but warned that while the former vice president's campaigned will initially try to "distance itself from the more radical elements of their party," it will show its true colors if they come to power.
"Look for Biden’s choice of vice president," Burke wrote. "It will likely be someone who will share the agenda of the radical left-wing of the party. Once in power it is reasonable to assume Biden will listen to his VP, and reward his base, by placing people in key positions in his administration, the federal bureaucracy, and the courts that will share the ideology and social agenda of the radical left."
"The full power of the federal government will be used to advance an unprecedented liberalization of abortion laws, and use existing civil rights law to suppress dissent from the party line in areas like abortion, religious liberty, transgender 'rights' and family life issues," he continued, before adding that "those who want to suppress free speech and attack the religious liberty of those with conservative or traditional views and beliefs will have a sympathetic friend in the Biden administration."
Burke went on to warn that Biden's ascendancy to the Oval Office will be accompanied by a rise in soft totalitarianism that will see vicious attacks "orchestrated by left-wing mobs intent upon your social and economic destruction."
He pointed to the example of UNC Wilmington professor Mike Adams, who was found dead at his home on July 23 shortly after he announced his early retirement amid backlash over his controversial social media comments about Covid-19 and the George Floyd protests.
Adams had called North Carolina's state governor Roy Cooper "Massa Cooper" and had compared living under coronavirus restrictions to living in a "slave state." He had also posted an article about a student activist under the title "A 'Queer Muslim' Jihad" and said George Floyd protesters were "thugs looking for an opportunity to break the law with impunity.”
Burke said Adams' suicide was proof that people are "afraid to share their conservative political and religious views and values in the workplace and the public square, and certainly on social media" because of a fear of backlash, which he said was carefully encouraged by the Democrats because it could lead to a Trump defeat.
