First Presidential Debate 2020: Jill kisses and hugs Biden while Melania just pats Trump on back after discourse
As the first presidential debate of 2020 between President Donald Trump and Democratic nominee Joe Biden came to a conclusion on Tuesday, September 29, night, former second lady Jill Biden went to the stage to hug and kiss her husband, while First Lady Melania Trump barely gave hers a pat on the back. Social media users were quick to notice the stark difference between the equations of the two presidential candidates' marital relationship, suggesting while one reflected warmth and "true love" while the other exuded discomfort.
President Trump and Melania's relationship has often been put under the scanner ever since the Republican won the 2016 presidential elections, with many suggesting that amidst multiple sexual harassment allegations and cheating claims, the pair's relationship has been nearly severed.
One user wrote: "Notice how Dr. Jill Biden hugs and kisses Joe Biden after the debate and Melania and Donald Trump barely touch. Can’t wait to elect true love back into the White House. #Debate2020 #PresidentialDebate." While another said: "After the debate, Jill Biden walked up to Joe and gave him a kiss and a huge hug while walking away while holding hands. Now that’s love. But Melania just walked up to Trump and gave him a pat on the back. Lmao. #PresidentialDebate2020." A third added: "Joe and Jill warmth hugs and Embracing... Melania only lets Trump hold her hand and looks hella uncomfortable. lmao its crazy and my tv is staying mute because I f***ng hate Chuck Todd."

Another user noted the contrast in the body language between the two couples, writing: "The after debate body language differences between the Trumps and the Bidens was stark. Did Melania even touch Donald? I know Jill Biden gave Joe a big hug and kiss." A fifth wrote: "Melania walks up to Trump. She does not hug him. She does not kiss him. Jill walks up to Joe and gives him a huge hug and a kiss. I can’t wait to have humanity back in the White House." One user also noted how the Bidens walked up to the debate's moderator Chris Wallace to thank him after the debate, but the Trump just walked away: "So much there. Melania stands next to him and they eventually walk away. Jill hugs Joe and they go over to thank Wallace. Such contrasts."

Social media users, during the first presidential debate between Trump and Biden, also speculated on who was running the Republican leader's Twitter account while he was on the debate stage. Trump's official Twitter account continued to post tweets while he debated Biden in Cleveland. There were many who wondered if Trump had given the reign of his popular account to his eldest son Donald Trump Jr or his eldest daughter and White House aide Ivanka. Trump is arguably the only president of the country who has often used the micro-blogging platform as his main source of communication to the public. Twitter, however, has recently taken to flagging some of the president's tweet as the Republican continues to tweet controversial edited videos to his millions of followers.
