Jeremy Renner and Sonni Pacheco: The ‘7 years of hell’ that resulted in a nasty custody battle and gun in the mouth
The Academy Award nominee Jeremy Lee Renner and ex-wife Sonni Pacheco have made a lot of headlines lately for all the wrong reasons. In response to Renner’s accusation against her for misappropriating their seven-year-old daughter Ava’s trust money, the latter has issued a statement, saying she's “sick of being continually bullied”.
While the court documents filed by Renner claim that Pacheco has transferred nearly $50,000 to her personal account from their daughter’s in less than two years, the actress defended herself stating, “The money transfers to my bank were to keep my afloat/provide [the minor] Christmas presents/birthday gift bags and essentials for her bday party - after all my savings were spent on lawyers/child custody evaluator,” reports People.
Her filing also allegedly read, “Please note the number of $10,701.40 was taken out of this account to pay my property taxes for 6 months. Once again this year like the past years, mine and [A.R.]’s savings have been drained from attorney fees.”
The war of finances between the duo stretches beyond that. The ‘Thor’ actor in March appealed to the court asking for his child support payments to be reduced from $30,000 to $11,000 a month owing to the impact of the novel coronavirus on the economy. However, their parched relationship has experienced much more than just monetary issues. Renner and Pacheco married in 2014 and got divorced in 2015. What followed was years of horrific allegations being levelled against each other.
In October 2019, the Canadian artist accused Renner of having a threesome and using drugs in the presence of their daughter, who was six years old at the time. She further claimed that she had once seen him pass out drunk during a party while Ava came looking for her father, according to the Daily Mail. The same year, the ‘American Pie’ actress, in her court documents, accused Renner of biting Ava. She claimed that he shoved a gun in her mouth threatening to kill her, according to Page Six.
However, Renner’s rep denied the allegation in a statement: “The wellbeing of his daughter Ava has always been and continues to be the primary focus for Jeremy. This is a matter for the court to decide. It’s important to note the dramatizations made in Sonni’s declaration are a one-sided account made with a specific goal in mind.”
Commenting on the drama surrounding their relationship which has gone public, the actress told Page Six, “I only have knowledge as to what I have read in the tabloids. I think it’s time after seven years of hell, I start addressing the lies myself.”
