DALLAS, TEXAS: A family was left shattered after a 11-year-old boy was fatally shot by his mother’s ex-boyfriend in North Dallas on Saturday, March 11. Jeremiah Green and his mother, Jocelyn, 31, were sleeping at his grandparents’ residence in the 6400 block of Royal Lane, when 30-year-old Jakeith Huntley allegedly fired 10 rounds around 2 am on Saturday, March 11.
Green was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene while Jocelyn was rushed to a hospital nearby with gunshot wounds on her arm. Several members of the family, including the child's grandparents and cousins, were reportedly home at the time of the shooting but were unharmed. Huntley, who dated Jocelyn for six years, was soon arrested on a capital murder charge in the child’s death. He also faces one count of aggravated assault, court records show, according to PEOPLE.

Motive remains unclear
Huntley's motive remains unclear but as per the arrest affidavit, he went to the home after Green and declined to return after she refused to meet him. The grieving mother told police that he kept banging on their door and demanded that she came outside. The affidavit stated that she often slept in the same room as Green, who was asleep at the time of the incident. “Huntley was angry with her and when she refused to come outside Suspect Huntley began firing multiple 9mm gunshots through the same window that they were just talking,” investigators wrote in the affidavit, per Dallas Morning News.
'He had dreams'
Green's untimely death has left his family heartbroken. Mourning his death, his uncle, Cameron Hardeman, who was present at time of the shooting, told KXAS, "I'm still in shock. It feels like a dream. It's like a nightmare waiting to wake up. He was an honor roll student, very smart, and really good at soccer. He liked karate, he was saying that he wanted to play football when he got older," adding, "He had dreams; couldn't wait to grow up. I'm pretty sure he would have followed every single one of them too. It's a tragedy he was taken from us, way too soon."
Green's crestfallen grandfather said, “Jeremiah will live on through us, his family and friends. He was a great kid.” He said that Jocelyn "was in pain." "This is her only kid, you know. It’s just a sad moment,” he added. The family has started a GoFundMe to raise money for the boy's funeral and Jocelyn’s recovery.
