Dave and Jenny Marrs from HGTV’s ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ Season 2 renovated “a house with a history” for the November 24 episode. The 1926 house had a lot of traditional elements and designs to it and the renovation duo wanted to preserve its “original charm.”

The homeowners Brittany and Dough Brewer were very excited to have Dave and Jenny renovate the house as at one point Brittany said, “I have been waiting for this day for all my life.” The Brewer house was built in the 1900s. It is 1,320 square feet and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The original price of the house was $81,000 and they wanted to spend not more than $150,000 on the renovation. The house belonged to Dough’s great grandmother and his grandmother was born in the house and that was just one of the special memories that the house consists of. When asked what changes the owners would like to see, Dough said, “I just think it’s kind of ugly.” He further said that the house was a “hodgepodge of different styles” from different eras and he wanted Dave and Jenny to bring it to the current century while preserving the memories. The renovation couple definitely had their work cut out for them!

The way Jenny’s creative mind works she wanted to give the house a wrap-around porch that went till the back of the house and created sitting spaces for the couple on the outside. When they entered the house they noticed the low 10 feet ceiling and Dave along with his handymen got to work and built a higher ceiling. Brittany and Dough are parents to two little girls and they wanted a living room that can transform into a home-school. Dave built individual desks for the girls that would close-up once school is over and they can enjoy their living space with all the school space shut away.

The main bath in the couple’s bedroom was tiny and Brittany liked taking showers before sleep at night. Jenny decided to give it a 360-degree makeover with a big window, new white tile flooring and modern lighting. She also installed a tub for Jenny to soak up and replaced the two sinks with one big sink. For the second bathroom, Jenny hired an artist to custom make a wallpaper that she wanted to put on the roof and it had the floral prints of the previous wallpapers used throughout the four generations. For the kitchen, Jenny decided to change the entire layout. She opened up the kitchen wall and gave it new countertops. She got French doors installed that connected the kitchen to the porch, gave the kitchen new countertops and storage spaces.

Dave managed to use Dough’s reclaimed wood all over the house that he saved in the garage. Dave and Jenny also used antique furniture that they found in different places in the house. All in all the house looked like what Jenny called, “old meets new.”

For the finishing touch, they custom made a plaque for the house that said ‘The Brewer House, 1926’. The Brewers were very happy with the renovation and couldn’t wait to start spending the rest of their life there.

Watch ‘Fixer to Fabulous’ every Tuesday, at 9 pm ET/PT on HGTV.
