MORGAN COUNTY, ALABAMA: An eight-year-old boy from Alabama was murdered by his mother in their home on Thursday morning, March 16. Jennifer Nicole Long allegedly stabbed her son to death and left her father injured.
The Hartselle resident was taken into custody on Thursday at 2.13 pm following the brutal stabbing, according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office. At 5.30 am, authorities responded to a 911 call about a stabbing incident at a home in Village Dr. The deputies arrived at the scene with the assistance of the Priceville Police Department. "Once on scene, deputies located an adult male suffering from a stab wound and one deceased 8-year-old boy," said the sheriff's office, according to Law and Crime.

Jennifer Long's father was airlifted to hospital
Charles Long, who survived the stabbing, was treated at the scene of homicide and was airlifted to the Huntsville Hospital. The lone suspect was taken into custody at the crime scene and allegedly told the deputies that her 8-year-old son was dead and remains in the "master bedroom" upstairs. "After entering the residence, deputies made contact with a white female coming down the stairs inside the house. Deputies ordered the female to get on the ground and she complied," said an affidavit.
Weapon was still 'protruding from' his chest
The knife used in the stabbing was still "protruding from" the victim's chest when the deputies found him. The boy who was identified as Tyler Weston Gardiner had "multiple stab wounds". For the stabbing death of a person under the age of 14, Jennifer is charged with capital murder and according to statute 13A-5-40(a)(15), intentional killing of a child under the age of 14 could result in a potential death penalty crime. The defendant's additional charges are pending as she is also being accused of stabbing her father, reported Law and Crime.
