NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Gloria Allred, who is reportedly representing 20 Jeffrey Epstein victims, wrote to the Department of Justice (DOJ) claiming that the victims had a right to know the truth about the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death in a New York federal prison.

Business Insider reported that Allred claimed in a letter sent on Tuesday, March 2 to Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz that Epstein's death by suicide on August 10, 2019, shattered the aspirations of her clients of being able to testify against him. She stated that "serious questions that must be answered" are raised following Epstein's death. Ghislaine Maxwell received a 20-year jail term on June 20, 2022, for her involvement in Epstein's scheme to molest and exploit multiple young girls over a ten-year period. Maxwell had stated that Epstein, who had been accused of trafficking a minor for sex in July 2019, was "allowed" by the authorities to kill himself while being held.

'The investigation is ongoing'

The National Women's Hall of Fame inductee Allred stated, "My understanding is that subsequently when there have been inquiries seeking updates concerning this investigation, the DOJ has commented that 'the investigation is ongoing.'"

Allred added, "However, if the DOJ OIG's office was waiting for the outcome of the prosecution of the guards at MCC who were on duty when Jeffrey Epstein either committed suicide or was the victim of homicide, that criminal case involving the guards has been resolved with a deferred prosecution agreement, and ultimately a nolle prosequi in December 2021 dismissing the charges."

Has Jeffrey Epstein's death been looked into?

Attorney General William Barr announced an investigation into Epstein's death three years ago, as noted by Allred. "It has been 3 ½ years since former Attorney General Barr announced the investigation. On behalf of many victims of Jeffrey Epstein whom I represent, I respectfully request information on when this investigation announced by Mr Barr will conclude," Allred stated.

Allred claimed that it is unfair for Epstein's alleged victims to be ignorant of the full circumstances of his death. "It is unfair that the victims of Jeffrey Epstein continue to be denied the knowledge of the conditions which existed at MCC that led to Mr Epstein’s death. The victims of Mr Epstein deserve to be told the truth about how and why the justice system failed them again," she stated.
