Disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein would spend up to 12 hours a day meeting with attorneys in order to avoid the cramped up conditions of the jail, new details show.

As reported by The New York Times, the conditions of 66-year-old Epstein's cell in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York were so bad that he found a way to stay away from it as much as possible.

He would frequently meet with his lawyers for hours at an end and would even just get bored and sit in silence.

In order to buy his protection from other inmates, Epstein also deposited money in the commissary accounts of three inmates.

The MCC commissary has a variety of goods such as Snickers bars, Jolly Ranchers and Velveeta cheese, as reported by the DailyMail

During his meetings with attorneys, Epstein and his clan would always end up raiding the vending machines in the area.

A woman visiting her husband revealed that visitors were allowed to bring money to buy items from the vending machine. However, the inmates had to consume the items in the visiting area itself and were not allowed to bring them into the cells.

Even though family visits are restricted to 30 minutes, MCC inmates have a lot of freedom to meet with legal counsel which is why Epstein would choose to sit in silence rather than be in his cell.

On July 6, Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges and he was transferred to MCC. On July 18, the judge denied Epstein bail. Around five days later on July 23, Epstein was discovered with neck injuries on the floor of the cell that he shared with Nicholas Tartaglione, a former NYPD cop.

Tartaglione had shouted for help and said that Epstein had attempted to kill himself. After the incident, Epstein was placed on suicide watch.

On August 10, Epstein was found unresponsive in his cell. As per an autopsy report, he had died by committing suicide by hanging.
