Jasmine Hartin, a well-known American real estate developer was arrested in Belize following the death of a senior police officer in San Pedro. The officer -- Superintendent Henry Jemmott -- was reportedly alone with Hartin, and the two were socializing. Police Commissioner Chester Williams has revealed more details regarding the case to the local media.

He said that Lord Ashcroft's daughter-in-law, Hartin, when found, had "what appeared to be blood on her arms and on her clothing". It was also revealed that a gun that belonged to Jemmott had been recovered from the pier. Police also further stated that the incident seemed personal. Police said this was "rather personal and not an attack".

It was also said that the two were friends and when the incident had occurred, the two of them had been drinking. Williams also said in a press conference with the local media that the investigators believed that Jemmott and Hartin were both alone at the pier near which Jemmott's body was recovered from and added that the both of them were fully clothed. It must also be noted that the incident occurred near a property that is jointly owned by Ashcroft and Marriott, which is located close to the Alaia Belize Resort.

Williams also spoke about the moment that she was found and said she was in an "emotional state walking herself on the pier". She continues to remain in custody as she is being investigated in relation to Jemmott's death. Initially, it was said that she had refused to cooperate with the officials without the presence of her lawyers.

Jemmott was found dead with a single gunshot wound and his body was found in the waters near a pier. The 43-year-old British developer Andrew Ashcroft is Jasmine's husband, and so far there is no response from him or his father Lord Ashcroft who is a famous political donor. Andrew is the youngest of three children and he is also a citizen of Belize. This is where he lives and works with Jasmine in San Pedro, the main town on the island of Amergris Caye.

Williams had also said that he was initially not aware that Jemmott had been on the island and had said that he became aware of it only after he heard of the incident. It was also revealed that Jemmott was in town to deal with some "some personal issues" that he had.

Williams also said "I was not aware he was out on San Pedro until I got the call last night that he had died. It's a sad situation, and it is something that we as a department will have to find a way to deal with and will as best as we can. The police have spoken to several persons living near the area of the incident and will use such information in their investigation."
