Jarod Nandin, the 'South Park Guy’ cosplayer, has lost his battle against Covid-19 at the age of 40. On December 23, in an Instagram post, he posted, “I tested positive for covid. I’m really sorry to worry you guys. I’m in the hospital getting treatment. Things look good. I'm just looking at Covid with a s**t-eating grin on my face and saying: 'How do you Kill that which...has no Life?'” He even took to Twitter in late December where he wrote, “Breathing complications arose. Treatment plan reevaluated. Working on it. Doing okay. #covid recovery.” “Breathing issues still a problem. Oxygen saturation levels keep dropping below 90. They are trying to figure things out. Waiting to know more,” a tweet from him on December 28 read. However, he could not make it and died on Sunday, January 3, TMZ reported.

Nandin became famous after participating in BlizzCon 2013, when he dressed up as the ‘World of Warcraft’ gamer from Season 10 of ‘South Park’, the episode ‘Make Love Not Warcraft’. People soon labeled him as the ‘South Park Guy’. In 2014, he spoke about the overwhelming response he received from everyone. “I thought if I took that character and made him human, meaning if I portrayed him, it would just be hilarious,” Nandin said at the time, before adding, “This kind of gave them the courage or the understanding that it was okay for them, that there were possibilities. It blew me away.” He also addressed all the hate comments he received online by stating, “You’re wasting your life by being vicious. You’re just a sack of flesh on a gravity rock hurling through space like the rest of us. You’re only weighing us down by being like that.”

Nandin’s fans have been devastated after hearing the news of his death. Many took to Twitter to express views as one person tweeted, “The Blizzcon Cosplay community lost a friend to Covid today. Jarod Nandin was best known for his cosplay of The Warcraft South Park Guy but he was also an advocate for cosplay positivity and encouraged people to cosplay whatever they want. He will be missed.” The second person said, “Such a sweet guy and a community trademark. I hope Blizz honors him in game, too.”

The third user commented, “That's terrible to hear :/ and of course it's from Covid as well... sadly there'll be more because you've so many idiots that refuse to wear masks, and others like antivaxxers that would sooner put people in danger rather than wearing one or getting a vaccine. RIP :(“. “Never had the pleasure of meeting the gentleman, but always loved that cosplay. So creative, you have never thought anyone would do the whole system and desk. More power to his message, and to those who knew him my condolences,” the fourth person said while another one added, “I remember seeing Jarod online when I was only a kid so it hurts to see his passing. Sending love to you and everyone who he touched with his time here; I can only hope to make as many people smile as he did.”
