Jared Kushner says that he and his wife Ivanka Trump are going to send their children back to school. He said he will "absolutely" send his children back to school as soon as the classes reopen despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

While on CBS News' 'Face the Nation' on Sunday, August 16, Kushner said, "Our school is not opening up five days a week, I wish they were. But we absolutely will be sending our kids back to school and I have no fear in doing so." Kushner and Ivanka have three children together – Arabella Rose Kushner, nine, Theodore James Kushner, four, and Joseph Frederick Kushner, six. POTUS Donald Trump's administration has been pushing for schools across the country to reopen even though there have been widespread concerns.

It has been reported that one school in Arizona was forced to cancel their plans to reopen after more than 100 teachers and staff had called in sick. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had revealed that the number of coronavirus cases in children had risen from March to July but that the exact number of positive cases is unknown due to lack of testing.

Since the spread of Covid-19, the United States has seen 5,403,269 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, as per data from John Hopkins University.

However, Trump's son-in-law says he has no concerns with his children going back to school "because children have a six times higher chance to die from the flu than from the coronavirus, so based on the data I’ve seen I don’t believe that’s a risk."

"Based on the data I have seen, I don't believe that that's a risk. Again, this virus impacts different people in different ways. We know a lot more now than we did," Kushner said. "Our school’s not opening back up five days a week, I wish they would but we absolutely will be sending our kids back."

The CDC had shared that the closing of schools could have contributed to the initial statistics of coronavirus cases. The organization revealed, "This may explain the low incidence in children compared with adults. Comparing trends in pediatric infections before and after the return to in-person school and other activities may provide additional understanding about infections in children."

Social media users have slammed Kushner for his comments and stance on the pandemic that has brought the world to a halt. One such user wrote, "Tell that to the parents of a Georgia teen who just died from the virus - no underlying conditions. Perhaps he’d live willing to send them to Cherokee County School outside Atlanta where third high school shut down today after two weeks of school. Superintendent and Kemp: GUILTY."

Another user had commented and said, "Is the secretary of everything aware that there's been a 90% increase in coronavirus cases in kids in the last month? What data has he been looking at?"

"I hope this will be followed upon. I’d like to see proof he sends his kids in for full days of school. And what the testing protocols are at the school. Public schools are not testing, at most they ask you to self-report any symptoms," shared another user.

And there were several Twitter users who quickly labeled Kushner "ignorant". National Security litigation expert, Bradley P Moss tweeted, "I look forward to people revising their "moderating influence" tag for Jared Kushner. He more and more sounds like an ignorant and entitled little snot who would be absolutely nothing absent being born into and marrying into positions of authority."

Yet another wrote, "Again, he's ignoring the bigger picture. What about their family members, teachers, friends, they may spread it to? What about the long term affects? What about the medical cost for those without health insurance?"
