James Corden has become the talk of the town after producer and director Ben Winston, known for co-executive producing 'The Late Late Show' replied to a 2017 tweet about the surprise telecast of One Direction's unseen 'Carpool Karaoke' footage from 2015 — a segment that brought famous artists carpooling and singing songs with Corden.

"Now can you confirm you'll release the 1D McDonald's footage," a One Direction fan had tweeted to him. Three years later, Winston replied, "Ok. Tonight."  His response went viral within minutes and eventually, he deleted it. However, it was too late by then as his name was trending worldwide.

Still confused? Well, the real incident dates back to 2015 when Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne made an appearance on the 'Carpool Karaoke' section of 'The Late Late Show with James Corden'. One of the most-watched segments on 'Carpool Karaoke', it not only garnered way too much attention but was shrouded in mystery as fans waited to see unseen footage of Corden with the boy band at a local McDonald's.

The anticipation only grew after the 'What Makes You Beautiful' hitmakers announced indefinite hiatus back in January 2016 and hasn't died since then. Now fans are rallying behind Corden to telecast that clip and many have vowed to cancel him and his late-night show if he doesn't give them ample content. "If James Corden doesn’t give us any content we will be canceling the late late show," one tweet read. Another said, "One Direction fans heading to the late late show after that James Corden commercial."

The clip soon started doing the rounds on the Internet. "Unseen footage of Louis and Harry ordering food at Mac Donalds with the rest of the 1D boys during their Carpool Karaoke in 2015!" one tweet read. However, fans weren't satisfied with the 20-second clip. "UM- WHAT. James Corden EXPLAIN," one tweet read. Another said, "One Direction fans are so content deprived that we really lost our shit just to see Louis give back a milkshake on James Corden’s show."

Many slammed Corden for being a liar. "Remember when we genuinely thought that the boys were going to reunite with James Corden on the late late show for our 10 year anniversary and all we got was a website (that was broken for like 2 days) and 15 seconds of McDonald's' footage 2 months later," one tweet said and another read, "James Corden is once again proof, all men do is lie." One Twitter user even went on to say: "BREAKING: people are trying to cancel James Corden because their expectations were way too high."

Soon, the 'Late Late Show' too posted a funny clip after getting a barrage of tweets. "Guys, we all love the One Direction boys--but James isn't gonna commit a multitude of international crimes to get them back together, alright?" the tweet read.

Many on the Internet came to his defense and said, "Can we not trend the hashtag James Corden is over party He did nothing wrong." Another tweet read: "Hey guys please dont cancel late late show or James Corden. He gave us an unseen."

One Direction has made an appearance on 'The Late Late Show With James Corden' twice — May 14 and December 3 — both in 2015.
