As we enter a new era of the presidency, Rep James Clyburn revealed George W Bush’s private words about Joe Biden at the inauguration ceremony. According to Clyburn, who endorsed Biden, Bush privately told him that he is the country’s savior for helping Biden defeat Donald Trump during the 2020 presidential election.

Clyburn told reporters during a call that George Bush had called the Rep a savior of this country because “if you had not nominated Joe Biden, we would not have (been) having this transfer of power". In addition to this, Bush reportedly told Clyburn that Biden was the only one who could have “defeated the incumbent president".

Joe Biden's Early Primary Election Results

When the Iowa caucuses were held in February 2020, Biden came in fourth place, and chances of him getting nominated for the president fell after he came in fifth place at the New Hampshire primary. Biden did not earn any delegates as he could not complete the 15 percent eligibility threshold. Several political experts and media outlets questioned Biden’s status as the Democratic candidate who would stand against Trump.

But when Biden got support from Clyburn, he won all the 46 counties in South Carolina, winning 48.7 percent vote and earning 39 delegates. Many credited Clyburn for this win, as most of the votes that Biden acquired was primarily attributed to his support from 61 percent of African-American voters. Clyburn’s role in the 2020 presidential election is noteworthy as his endorsement came when Biden’s campaign was suffering, and his South Carolina win instantly transformed his campaign. South Carolina’s outcome significantly boosted Biden’s chances of winning southern states such as Virginia and Texas.

Right after Clyburn’s statement surfaced online, many of Biden’s followers took to Twitter to compare the remarks with the New Testament verses 16-17. Bush’s chief of staff Freddy Ford tried his best to downplay the comment by tweeting, “Let’s not make this into more than it is. He was saying Clyburn helped saved Biden’s nomination…nothing Biblical here.”

George W Bush on Donald Trump

George W Bush, a member of the Republican Party, did not campaign for Trump and did not support his fellow Republican’s election and reelection bids. It was also alleged that on the eve of Trump’s nomination, Bush expressed concern about the future of the Republican Party. Even at the 2020 presidential election, where Trump was competing against Biden, Bush never gave him any endorsements.

“I want to congratulate President Trump and his supporters on a hard-fought campaign. He earned the votes of more than 70 million Americans – an extraordinary political achievement. They have spoken, and their voices will continue to be heard through elected Republicans at every level of government,” Bush said in a statement after offering his congratulations to Biden and Kamala Harris for their historic win.
