Jake Tapper says friend's young daughter 'burst into tears' because of Trump, Internet says he made up the story

After the first Presidential debate ahead of the 2020 election between President Donald Trump and Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden wrapped up, CNN host Jake Tapper recalled a story about his friend's sixth-grade daughter bursting into tears after watching the face-off, which many of the social media users found bizarre since the kid in question was not in her voting age.

Tapper relayed the story to his audience during the network's coverage of Tuesday’s presidential debate. The host said that everyone on the panel is “getting text messages from friends all over the country. A friend of mine, in Kansas City, watching her first debate with her sixth-grade daughter, daughter bursts into tears, has to run to bed. Because she was so appalled, this sixth-grade girl, at what she saw from the president of the United States. We all want to dive into the substance, but it’s almost difficult to get there.”

His story was mocked by Daily Caller reporter Chuck Ross as he insinuated that Tapper made up the story just to lash out at Trump. "Both Tapper and Axelrod, in successive segments, relay messages they received from friends who said their young kids -- a 6th grader and a 12-year-old — burst into tears watching the debate. So that's what we're doing now," he tweeted.

Ross was not the only one who thought that the story was unbelievable. One of the users said straight up, "My first question is, why the f**k would you allow a 12-year-old to watch the debate? They are far too young to even understand what's going or the implications. They should be playing outside or something not worrying about the future of the country, that's the parent's role"

Some of the reporter's followers also came up with their own versions of seemingly made up stories about their own kids to stress the fact that children are rarely interested in Presidential debates and nor would responsible parents let underage kids watch such programs. "My 6-month-old looked at me and said 'Daddy, why does Hunter Biden get $3.5m from the Moscow First Lady and I don’t get anything, not even a nice $80k a month retainer deal from Burisma? I’m as qualified as he is.' We hugged and burst out in tears," one of them wrote, while another commented, "My teenagers were laughing and then got bored of the yelling and went to bed." A third opined, "My son is playing PUBG, he told me to tell him how it went. He's 18 and will be voting. Muhaha"

One of the others quipped, "My daughter watched 2 minutes and laughed at the fiasco. Because she’s 14 and not emotionally crippled by her parents." Another remarked, "They need to recalibrate their lives. My 12, 10, and 9-year-olds were watching Bunk’d on Disney Channel while my husband and I watched the train wreck."

A user reckoned Tapper came up with the story because he had no other way of attacking Trump. "Isn’t it interesting that the talking heads on TV are so terrified of saying anything remotely positive about Trump that they can’t say he dominated the debate? Instead they just turn to 'this was so bad' instead of 'it was confrontational, but Trump took control'" the user wrote.
