Unarmed Black man Jacob Blake was shot several times as he opened the door of his car in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday, August 23, 2020. The video of the incident went viral and at least seven shots were heard in the clip where White cops fired at him. Two days after the incident, Jacob's family made a public speech and delivered a message of peace. Jacob is undergoing treatment at present.

Jacob's mother, Julia Jackson, talked about the destruction throughout the city that has been happening since her son was shot. She said, "We really just need prayers.” “As I was riding through here, the city, I noticed a lot of damage. It doesn’t reflect my son or my family. If Jacob knew what was going on as far as that goes – the violence and the destruction – he would be very unpleased." With tears in her eyes, she added, "I am really asking and encouraging everyone in Wisconsin and abroad to take a moment and examine your heart ... do Jacob justice on this level and examine your heart. We need healing."

Jacob's father, Jacob Blake Sr, said, "I like to thank everyone for coming out in support of my son with this senseless attempted murder that was committed on him. They shot my son seven times, seven times. Like he didn't matter. But my son matters. He's a human being, and he matters."

As soon as the news broke out on Twitter, Julia won the hearts of the netizens with her words. One user commented, "#JacobBlake’s mother Julia Jackson is Imploring people to “examine your heart...We need to heal our country. Please let’s begin to pray for healing for our nation. We are the United States of America but are we united?" Another said, "God Bless Julia Jackson. Thank you for your wonderful heart, soul and spirit. We all needed to hear every word. God speaks through you." Another applauded her saying, "Jacob Blake’s remarkable mother, Julia Jackson. I do not know how she found these words, this grace at this terrible time."

God did not make one type of tree or flower....how dare you ask him to make one type of human that looks just like you." - Julia Jackson, Jacob Blake's mom @tmj4 #Kenosha." She is grace personified. Her words are so powerful."

Calling it an incredible speech, another user said, "I can't even imagine the incredible pain and suffering Jacob Blake's mother, Julia Jackson, is feeling now. But I felt her words. An INCREDIBLE speech. I'm so angry that speeches like hers need to be made, over and over and OVER again. #BlackLivesMatter." Another user said, "Jacob Blake’s mother, Julia Jackson, just gave a powerful speech. Jackson said no one is superior. She said as she prays for her son’s healing, she prays for the healing of this country. She said a house divided cannot stand. “America is great when we behave greatly.” Wow."

Recent CNN reports confirm that Jacob might not be able to walk again as he was paralyzed from the waist down. Attorney Ben Crump said that "it is going to take a miracle" for Jacob to walk again. His family attorney, Patrick Salvi, said, "He had a bullet go through some or all of his spinal cord. At least one bullet. He has holes in his stomach. He had to have nearly his entire colon and small intestines removed." Salvi added that the family will file a civil lawsuit. The protests after the shooting were raged to an extent that the Wisconsin governor declared the state of emergency and increased National Guard presence in several areas.
