Susan Rice calls Lindsey Graham 'a piece of s***' amid GOP attack over her handling of Benghazi
Former national security adviser Susan Rice called Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) a "piece of shit" as she was airing some old grievances during a podcast on Wednesday. Her statement came a few days after President Donald Trump and the rest of the GOP slammed her handling of 2012’s attack on a US compound in Benghazi, Libya.
"Susan Rice, who was a disaster to President Obama as National Security Advisor, is now telling us her opinion on what to do in Syria. Remember RED LINE IN THE SAND? That was Obama. Millions killed! No thanks Susan, you were a disaster," Trump wrote on Twitter.
Rice, who spoke with the hosts of 'Pod Save the World' during the promotion of her new book, discussed the impeachment inquiry against Trump, and the Turkish invasion of Kurdish-held territory in Syria during the segment. However, when former Obama administration adviser Ben Rhodes brought up the Benghazi attack to add context to Trump's recent decisions, Rice referred to Graham as a "piece of shit."
Rhodes, during a preview of the episode on Twitter, said: "You have to understand Benghazi to understand [President] Trump." While another host and former Obama adviser Tommy Vietor added: "Right, because Lindsey Graham isn’t just a piece of shit now."
Rice then interjected him, and said: "He’s been a piece of shit. I said it. I said it, dammit. Finally. He’s a piece of shit.”
The South Carolina Senator has long been one of the most staunch defenders of President Trump. However, in an unprecedented move, Graham initially disagreed with Trump's decision to order US troops to leave Syria, calling it a "national security disaster in the making."
However, he reversed his course in an interview on Fox News this week, saying he was "increasingly optimistic” that “historic solutions” were on the horizon. Meanwhile, Rice called Trump's decision "batshit crazy."
