Ivanka poses for selfie with Trump ladies in masks ahead of prez debate, Internet likens it to 'a Klan rally'

Ivanka simply captioned the picture 'Let's Go!' and one of the users completed the sentence, saying 'Straight to jail...'

Ahead of the first Presidential debate on Tuesday, September 29, first daughter Ivanka Trump took to Instagram to post a picture of four ladies in her family, including herself, Melania, Tiffany and Lara Trump backstage, all of them posing with face masks. While many of the anti-Trump social media users mocked the photo as well as the caption posted by Ivanka, others were not happy to see members of the first family with their faces covered. 

To express the excitement for the debate, Ivanka simply captioned the picture "Let's Go!" followed by a US flag emoji. It was a selfie taken by Lara, as the three others posed behind her. Ivanka held up the victory sign and all the four ladies seem to be smiling beneath their maks. Part of the debate stage was visible in the backdrop. 

Due to Ivanka's short and vague caption, netizens took little effort to target it. One of them treated it like an unfinished statement and attempted to finish it for her. "Straight to jail..." the user wrote while another asked, "Look like a klan rally" A third reminded the first daughter that there was still time for the festive season to begin by writing, Halloween isn't till next month !!" And another one seemed to suggest that the four ladies featuring in the picture looked like they were part of a carnival. "Just a traveling carnival, creepy AF" the user wrote.

There were also those who were disappointed with Ivanka and the rest of the Trump family for putting on masks for the occasion, especially since President Donald Trump has famously been not in favor of wearing masks, contrary to the recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that face coverings help in preventing the novel coronavirus that is currently an ongoing pandemic. 

"Daughter-Wife Ivanka doesn't look as hot with a mask covering her face," one of them said, while another noted, "Stop with the masks, I'm a Patriot and I'm sick of seeing other Patriots wearing these stupid masks". One of the others commented, "I live in a Blue State in lockdown with mandatory masks. I agree, masks are a freaking fad. It's become a fashion statement and a source of control." And another wrote, "Why are you all in masks as a family?"

However, the wearing of the masks seemed to be limited to the brief time that the picture was clicked with many of the news media outlets publishing photos of the Trump family members who attended the debate maskless inside the venue. One of the reporters who covered the debate observed Ivanka sitting with her mask on and then swiftly taking off after the debate began. 

"An observation from inside the debate hall: Everyone in Biden’s side of the hall is wearing a mask. More than half on Trump’s side, including his four children, are not wearing masks. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it’s a requirement that all guests wear masks," Bloomberg News reporter Tyler Pager posted. He added in a follow-up tweet, "Melanie Trump just walked in wearing a mask. She removed it as she sat down."

Political consulting firm Burke Communications founder Timothy Burke also tweeted pictures of some of the family members of Trump sitting without masks at the debate with the caption, "Leading by example"
