Ivanka Trump has recently been touting her father as the "People's President" on Twitter as well as in front of crowds of people at President Donald Trump's rallies, in apparent reference to the late Princess Diana, who was affectionately labeled "People's Princess" and is still known by that title today.
"Good Morning, Charlotte! Today, I will be campaigning in North Carolina and Pennsylvania as we fight to re-elect the People’s President Donald J. Trump! #4MoreYears" the first daughter tweeted on October 28, followed by a tweet a few days later, that read, "Four days from now, we’re going to win Wisconsin and we’re going to win four more years for the People’s President @realDonaldTrump."
On Sunday, November 1, she accompanied POTUS at a rally in Dubuque, Iowa. In footage from her speech there, uploaded by Ivanka herself, captioned, "Honored to be in Dubuque, Iowa with my father today... I’ll be back in the Hawkeye state again tomorrow campaigning with Senator Joni Ernst!" she was heard saying to a cheering crowd, "Hello Iowa, this is some serious energy and a little bit of cold, but you all warm up the room. So, I love you and we all love this man - a warrior through and through who never forgets why he is in Washington, why he ran or president, and who he's fighting for, which is you, the American people."
She added: "What's he's been able to accomplish in four years is extraordinary, but you know what, he'll do that and then some if given another term, which you're gonna bring him to. He fights so hard for each of us every day and now we can fight for him and the future of this great country by using our voice and using our vote - to win another victory for the People's President. Get out and vote everyone."

As soon as Ivanka used the phrase on social media, many users started calling her out for coining a similar phrase for her father as the people of the United Kingdom did decades ago for Diana. "The People’s President? Who is he, Princess Diana? Ivanka is a complicit, feckless, corrupt moron who helped inflict her crooked/corrupt dad onto a nation where bigots are empowered and lack empathy is the norm. Fascism IS her brand," one tweeted, while another wrote, "'People’s President' is a rip off of 'The People’s Princess,' which is a fitting title for Princess Diana. Not for the Liar-in-Chief, dRonald Drumpf." A third said in the same vein, "He is NOT the people's President. Stop with this 'Princess Diana' line"
Someone else tweeted, "Ivanka we know donald trump is not the people’s president. He represents the Trump, Kushner Crime Family." Another wrote, "Wasn’t Ivanka prattling on the other day about trump being a people’s president?" One user commented, "The people’s president???? WTAF Ivanka. That statement is laughable." Another remarked, "When Ivanka says that daddy is the 'people's president' she is talking about the top 1%. The wealthy of the wealthiest."
There were also those who pointed out that there was another reason Trump did not fit the description of the people's president - because he lost the popular vote in 2016. "Sorry Ivanka he was not voted in, in 2016 as the people's president..." one user wrote, while another said, "What people are you talking about, Immoral Ivanka? He is definitely NOT the people’s president. He lost the popular vote. #BidenHarris2020"

Princess Diana earned the honorary title of "Princess" and later "People's Princess" because despite not being born of royal blood -- which is the only way one officially inherits the title of "Princess", she was immensely loved by the British people as well as people around the world. While the rest of the royal family were known for their larger-than-life stature with which the common people could never identify with, Princess Diana was known for her humility, the approachable vibe she gave off and using her platform to champion causes close to her heart which helped her connect and bond with the public. As a result, the title reflected the fact that she was, in many ways, the first royal who was relatable to the masses.
