Update: Ivana Trump was found unconscious and unresponsive by her employee at the bottom of the stairs in her New York City Upper East Side townhouse on Thursday, July 14. Previously, the cause of her death was ambiguous but investigators did rule out foul play. Now, examiners have confirmed that Ivana's death was an accident. New York City's medical examiner determined on Friday, July 15, that Ivana died of "blunt impact injuries" to the torso as a result of the fall.

Former US president Donald Trump's first wife Ivana Trump died on Thursday, July 14, at around 1 pm in Manhattan. She was found unconscious and unresponsive in her New York City Upper East Side townhouse. Known to the world as a powerful businesswoman, a model, and athlete, she best played the role of a mother to her children and a grandmother to her 10 grandchildren. She is survived by her three children - Donald Jr, Eric, and Ivanka. She was 73.

The news of Ivana's death was first announced by her ex-husband Trump on his Truth Social account via a post. Ivana was married four times. First, she married Alfred Winklmayr from 1971 to 1973, then came her marriage with Trump which lasted from 1977 to 1992. She was also married to Riccardo Mazzucchelli (1995-1997) and Rossano Rubicondi (2008-2009).

How did Ivana Trump die?

The exact cause of Ivana's death has not been verified as yet, but the police have already ruled out foul play. Some officials claim that it appeared accidental and may have fallen down the stairs. She was found at the bottom of the stairs in her Manhattan home by the police conducting a wellness check. Preliminary investigation labels it to be an accident saying she could have fallen after suffering a medical episode. The incident took place just two hours before her hair appointment. TMZ reports that Ivana's employee arrived at her residence and found Ivana on the right side of the second floor of her residence. She was the first person to call 911.

Ivana was born in Czechoslovakia in 1949 to an electrical engineer Milos Zelnícek, and Marie, who was a telephone operator. In the mid-1970, she first moved to Canada before finding her way to the States and residing in New York City. Most of her youth she was an athlete, busy skiing for the Czechoslovakian national system, later even competing for Charles University in Prague. She first started modeling for Audrey Morris Agency in Montreal when she came to Canada. This stint led her to travel to New York City where she met Trump in 1976. They married nine months later.

Family pays tribute to Ivana Trump

Trump broke the news of Ivana's death on his Truth Social account saying, "I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City. She was a wonderful, beautiful, and amazing woman, who led a great and inspirational life. Her pride and joy were her three children - Donald Jr, Ivanka, and Eric. She was so proud of them, as we were all proud of her. Rest In Peace, Ivana!"

Her second born, Ivanka, took to her Instagram to remember her late mother with a throwback picture. She wrote, "Heartbroken by the passing of my mother. Mom was brilliant, charming, passionate and wickedly funny. She modeled strength, tenacity and determination in her every action. She lived life to the fullest — never forgoing an opportunity to laugh and dance. I will miss her forever and will keep her memory alive in our hearts always. ❤️"

Eric Trump, 38, also took to his Instagram account and posted, "It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Ivana Trump. Our mother was an incredible woman — a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend. Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren." Eric also issued a statement on behalf of the whole family to Daily Mail which said, "Our mother was an incredible woman - a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend. Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination. She will be dearly missed by her mother, her three children and ten grandchildren." Ivana's eldest, Donald Jr is yet to comment.

Television news anchor and author Rita Cosby tweeted, "Heartbroken to hear of the passing of beloved #IvanaTrump. She was a top athlete, accomplished businesswoman and above all, a remarkable human being and wonderful friend. Prayers for the #Trump family and all who loved her dearly. #Ivana" Senior advisor to former President Trump, Stephen Miller said, "Sending my prayers to President Trump, Ivanka, Don Jr. and Eric on the tragic news of Ivana Trump’s passing.
