Piers Morgan says Meghan lying about suicidal thoughts, Internet slams ITV for running mental health campaign
ITV and Piers Morgan are facing the wrath of people on the internet after the 'GMB' host made insensitive remarks on Meghan Markle’s mental health statement, which she made during her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey. On Monday morning, March 8, Morgan not just criticized the Sussexes interview with Winfrey, but he also branded Meghan’s claim that she had suicidal thoughts because of the abuse she faced while being a member of the royal family a lie.
“Who did you go to? What did they say to you? I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report,” the 55-year-old broadcaster said on ‘Good Morning Britain’. On the show itself, he was met with disagreements as Susanna Reid, Morgan’s co-host, said, “Well, that’s a pathetic reaction to someone who has expressed those thoughts.” ITV News’ royal editor Chris Ship also slammed the journalist by saying, “Someone saying that they had suicidal thoughts, I don’t think you can say that she was lying at that point. She had these thoughts, pretty serious ones, she took them to HR.”

Social media users were also not happy with Morgan’s “ignorant” comments as many also pointed out how hypocritical it was on ITV’s part to let him say this on TV while running its Britain Get Talking mental health campaign. The campaign was launched in 2019 “by Ant and Dec during Britain’s Got Talent to encourage people to look after their mental health by staying connected.”
One person on Twitter said, “Itv running an entire mental health campaign around reaching out to people who need it the most while allowing piers morgan to say he doesn't believe a black woman had suicidal ideation on their flagship show says everything you need to know about corporate wellbeing posturing.” Another user commented, “You are a hard hearted man Piers. How can you sit there and pontificate, especially when Meghan stated that she felt suicidal and the discussion on the skin colour of their first born before his birth. You were not there when they had these discussion were you there. Shameful.”

“Piers going on TV and saying he doesn’t ‘believe’ someones mental health issues is a very dangerous precedent to set on a big network like ITV. They should never be allowing something like that to be taking place. Imagine the amount of people Meghan could be inspiring to talk about their situations for it to be shut down by ‘i dont believe you’,” a user noted.
The second one wrote, “This is exactly what's wrong with the world. As much as I dislike the guy,@piersmorgan has only said he doesn't believe Meghan. Now apparently he doesn't believe her because shes black. Hes entitled to his opinions like anyone. And, no.. I dont dislike Piers because he's white.” “Piers Morgan asserts he has no problem with people suffering from *genuine* mental health problems. *HE* doesn’t BELIEVE Megan’s suicide ideation. A self-appointed expert casting aspersions on the legitimacy mental health issues on ITV, a network running MENTAL health campaign?” the third user added.
