ITHACA, NEW YORK: Ithaca College has been heavily criticized for segregating white staff from minority colleagues during an "anti-racism" course. The staff was instructed to record their race in a database before being segregated into groups based on "racial affinity groups". This has enraged several users on social media. Commenting on the same, one of the individuals pointed out, “This is illegal.”

According to Fox News, the event page on the college website, which is not public anymore, stated, "The Antiracism Institute will focus on the development of communities who will support one another in learning and action. Because Ithaca College is a predominantly white institution, much of the institute's work is focused on unpacking the impact of centering whiteness and working to decenter these practices. The curriculum will be based on building equity literacy abilities, starting with the recognition of systemic racism and features of white supremacy in person, policy & pedagogy. We then move into responding and redressing these features in the participants’ local contexts. In the second semester the curriculum will focus on cultivating and sustaining communities." Faculty and staff members, interested in joining the fall 2022 Antiracism Institute, were then directed to an application form where they were given the option to attend sessions every Monday for "faculty and staff who identify as people of color" or on Thursdays for "faculty and staff who identify as white."

Following this, many users took to Twitter to express their views on the issue and slammed the institution. One of the individuals wrote, "I almost attended #IthacaCollege. Thank god I chose somewhere else. I chose to practice peace and love."

Another said, "@IthacaCollege doubles down on its hatred of #MartinLutherKing & his ideas of unity. Instead they are proudly practicing segregation in 2022."

A user commented by saying, "We need to fire the white oppressors masquerading as faculty and hire more minorities. They should make double what white colleagues make as reperations. Do it now and show the world how its done."

Few social media users called the move "illegal". One person said, "Wait till they find out the whites will be happy and so will the blacks. BTW, this is illegal, I would sue my employer, slam dunk!" While another said, "Isn’t segregation illegal? Wtf is going on."

Continuing to bash the college, one user said, ""Decentering whiteness”; such racist vapid word salad takes the cake. These educated fools don’t know what divisive, racist, inequitable thing to do next in their eternal desperate pursuit of virtue signaling “Diversity, Inclusivity & Equity” (aka D.I.E.)."
