Will there be 'Ripple' Season 2? Heartfelt Netflix drama ends debut season with tense cliffhanger
Often in life, we overlook little incidents that eventually play a significant role. Such influential minutiae, which contain life-changing possibilities, are explored throughout the debut season of 'Ripple' on Netflix. The eight-part show, which was licensed from Lionsgate Play by Netflix, chronicles the lives of four strangers living in New York City; they cross each other's paths by pure accident and go on to develop a newfound sense of fraternity. The positive reception of the first eight episodes, coupled with several narrative threads remaining unresolved by the season 1 finale, has promptly generated demands for a second season.
As per Cosmopolitan, 'Ripple' hasn't yet been officially renewed for a second season, either by Lionsgate Play or Netflix. Since the show just premiered on the streamer in December, it is still early days before a decision is taken about the show's ultimate fate. Such a decision would have to wait until the show's viewership and engagement rating figures are gathered and analysed. Meanwhile, the show garnered a satisfactory debut reception on Netflix and was featured on the streaming platform's Top 10 list during the second week following its release. However, Lionsgate's publicity and marketing couldn't provide the show with a significant boost to the extent that it missed out on having a spot in the Top 10 during its first week.
A potential season 2 of 'Ripple' would have no dearth of story material to build upon. The debut season brought together the cast of Frankie Faison, Ian Harding, Julia Chan, and Sydney Agudong, who played the characters of Walter, Nate, Kris, and Aria, respectively. The story began with struggling singer Aria accidentally injuring Nate after she dropped a small rock from her balcony. A visit to the hospital led Nate to learn about his cancer diagnosis. On the other hand, Walter suffered from loneliness following the death of his wife and started hanging out more at the Lumi bar, which is owned by Nate. Kris, a down-on-her-luck music executive, forms a bond with Nate as well.
The finale of 'Ripple' Season 1 left questions unanswered about the future of Nate and Kris's relationship, especially since Nate penned down a note for Kris hinting that their relationship might have just begun properly. Nate is also looking into a treatment phase for his cancer. Walter expressed his desire to share the bar duties with Nate. All of these narrative threads could be explored by a potential sophomore season of the show.
Creator Michele Giannusa herself confessed to having several other seasons in mind, in case her show is renewed. Speaking in an interview with What's On Netflix, Giannusa explained, "When the show started in development, I had five seasons in my pocket, I've always had five seasons in my pocket. I won't tell you, but I know exactly what the very last shot of the last episode looks like." All episodes of 'Ripple' are exclusively available on Netflix.
