LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'American Idol' season 21 is getting more intense audiences saw many aspiring singing sensations audition for a chance to get a golden ticket on the latest episode of ABC's competitive show. Among such contenders, Preston Duffee stood out among fans for bringing his raw talent onstage.

Preston performed an original song and bagged a golden ticket to Hollywood. Preston's vulnerable original song earned high praise and a standing ovation from the judges, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. His song was dedicated to his late mother who died by suicide. However, Preston thinks "just because you’re suicidal or depressed doesn’t make you weak." He added, "It jumps on people, and when it comes around you can’t help it."

Preston Duffee pays tribute to his mom

Preston is a country singer who hails from Hartsville, SC. The aspiring singer has experienced several hurdles in his life which pushed him to write a song. Preston took the first step to singing from the church at a young age as he revealed in the previous podcast interview. He got his first guitar when he was young and taught himself to play with the help of YouTube videos. Preston has been posting songs on his social media for at least five years. Moreover, Preston has performed with a former 'The Voice' sensation Ashland Craft. Preston has also performed with the singer Danny Gokey at a Civic Center show. During his recent appearance at 'American Idol', the 21-year-old rising singer told the judges about his mother's death by suicide which resulted in a period of homelessness for his family. Preston also revealed that his mother's tragic death happened two years after she was battling bipolar disorder. Preston shared that his sister found their mother after hearing the gunshot. Preston further revealed that music has saved his life and is the gateway to how he makes money and puts food on the table.

Preston won the heart of the judges with his original song, 'Something to write about' dedicated to his late mother. Katy praised him while comparing his voice with the singer Luke. Perry told Bryan to watch out, "Duffee may be coming for his fans." She added, "I just feel like I’m looking at a young Luke Bryan." Responding to her comment, Preston said, "The ladies at church call me Luke." Meanwhile, Luke added, "Man, you’ve got a really bright future as a songwriter, and your voice will grow and be stronger." Lionel praised him saying, "Songwriting is a skill, and you nailed that." Social media users also left impressed with his singing skills. They took to the comment section of Preston's audition video and wrote, "Great song 🤩 I got goosebumps 🙌🙌🙌." Another social media user added, "Love it!! My thought exactly I think young Luke Bryan. remarkable He nailed it!! See star ⭐️ Congratulations."
