Is 'Million Dollar Secret' scripted? Season 2 host reveals the truth as $1 million is up for grabs
Netflix premiered the second installment of ‘Million Dollar Secret’ on April 15, 2026. The competition series introduced 14 contestants. With a million dollars on the line, the contestants play various mind games, complete secret tasks, and strategically craft alliances. After the success of the debut season, the recently released Season 2 has also begun gaining momentum, with some wondering if it's scripted. The show host, Peter Serafinowicz, in his interview with Tudum, shared more about the format of the show, clarifying that "it's all real." “This game is about lying and deceiving people, taking them into your confidence and pretending to be friends.” He added, “The participants are in this crazy situation. They wake up, and they’re in this game 24/7. The emotions and the tension…it’s all real.”
The 'Million Dollar Secret' host also mentioned that while all the participants try to “keep it together,” some of them can’t handle the pressure. Being the host, Peter noted that he was responsible for setting “the tone.” He mentioned that he "didn’t want to be too cynical." He added, "There’s a great prize at stake, and the players are taking it very seriously.” When the guests join 'The Stag,' Peter keeps an eye on everyone’s strategic behavior. “I’m kind of encouraging them, but at the same time antagonizing them in a fun way,” he noted.
Contestants on 'Million Dollar Secret' are referred to as 'guests.' They arrive at 'The Stag', an iconic mansion surrounded by scenic views and luxury. Each of them is given a box, most of which turn out to be empty. However, one of their boxes contains a million dollars. The millionaire must keep their identity hidden while carrying out secret agendas. The guests take part in various activities and earn points. Upon losing, they are nominated and face consequences at the elimination dinner. During the dinner, guests must correctly guess the identity of the secret millionaire. If they correctly guess, the money is then moved to a different contestant’s box, and the cycle repeats. Referring to intense elimination dinners filled with anticipation, Peter shared, “At the dinners, it’s like my own personal, delicious reality show taking place in front of my eyes while I dine on fine food. It was too exhilarating.”
'Million Dollar Secret' showrunner Charles Wachter and executive producer Glenn Hugill spoke to Reality Blurred on April 15, 2026. The two opened up about how a millionaire is chosen and revealed that the selection is random. They draw names from a hat. The process is overseen by lawyers and producers, and it is also filmed and sent to Netflix to ensure fairness. Hugill revealed that if he wanted to have a scripted show, he would have “gone into scripted if I wanted to try and control all this.”
