WASHINGTON, DC: President Joe Biden celebrated his 81st birthday on November 20, a significant feat for the oldest sitting president in the history of the United States.

On an Instagram post, Biden showed off his birthday cake, quipping, "Thanks for the birthday well-wishes today, everyone. Turns out on your 146th birthday, you run out of space for candles!"

The accompanying picture can rightly be described as fiery, as The Hill reported. An astonishing number of candles huddled on the round cake had the crowded flames blazing high in glory, as Biden basked in its hues.

Joe Biden has been facing mounting concerns over his age

On the morning of his birthday, Biden was engaged in the White House Thanksgiving tradition of pardoning turkeys, a tradition that he noted in his speech has been carried along for more than seven decades. This year the lucky birds happened to be Liberty and Bell.

According to AP News, while addressing the gathered audience at the event, the president joked about his birthday, saying, "By the way, it’s my birthday today. I just want you to know, it’s difficult turning 60. Difficult.”

Biden added that guests in the Oval Office sang “Happy Birthday” to him before the event.

“This is the 76th anniversary of this event, and I want you to know I wasn’t there at the first one; I was too young to make it up,” he said.

The president is scheduled to travel to Nantucket with the first lady, Jill Bidden, to celebrate the former's birthday with the family. The couple is to stay on the island in Massachusetts through the Thanksgiving holiday.
