Is Melania Trump working harder than Trump and still being lambasted? As the First Lady hosted a roundtable on ‘Improving the Lives of Americans Living with Sickle Cell Disease’ in recognition of National Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Awareness Month on September 14, some people noticed her hard work while others slammed her as a 'Karen' and fraud.

Melania opened the roundtable in the White House by reinstating the goal of finding a cure for the disease. She underscored the children’s well-being as a pillar of her ‘Be Best’ public awareness campaign. Melania noted that the effects of SCD often begin in early childhood. She then emphasized how progress has been made through early identification and new life-saving therapies. However, she also iterated that there is much more to be done as reported by The White House. The First Lady said, “Although we have known about this disease for over one hundred years, too many Americans living with Sickle Cell still do not receive the quality care they need and deserve. But together, we can bring help and hope to so many children and families.”

U.S. First Lady Melania Trump speaks during a roundtable on sickle cell disease in the State Dining Room of the White House on September 14, 2020 in Washington, DC. The First Lady held the event “to support those affected by Sickle Cell Disease, and to reaffirm our goal of finding a cure.”

Tweeting about the roundtable, Melania wrote, “Today I hosted a roundtable @WhiteHouse on improving the lives of Americans w Sickle Cell Disease. We must continue to support those affected, eliminate stigma, & reaffirm our goal of finding a cure. #SCDAwareness”

In closing, Melania reaffirmed her commitment to improving care for SCD patients and expressed, “I want to recognize the bravery of those living with this disease, both children and adults. You deserve a long and happy life, free from pain, and we will continue to fight until nothing stands between you and your dreams.”

No sooner that she posted her resolve to care for those who are suffering from the disease, social media came alive with reactions. While some praised her for the hard work others asked where she was in the last 4 years given her appeal to do more in healthcare came just now.  “Thank you for your hard work Mrs. Melania! Your the best!” “Where have you been hiding these last 4 years? Nice to see you out and trying to do something positive for a change even though a bit late.”

Some want Melania to correct what Trump has done and asked her help him handle the Covid-19 situation. “Your husband is fighting to deny them access to health care by destroying the ACA. That action will kill a lot of people with SCD, and nearly every other chronic ailment. Start there.” Another concurred, “What about preexisting conditions? Your husband puts all these Americans with sickle cell in great jeopardy if his case to overturn ACA wins in Supreme Court.”

In June, the Trump administration repeated their plea to overturn the Affordable Care Act or Obamacare.ACA was a key campaign rallying point for Trump in 2016 and Republican lawmakers have largely opposed the law since its inception in 2010.

Despite the praises, many people slammed Melania as fraud and called her Karen. “Just getting around to it shy of 50 days from the election. What a patronizing fraud.” An enraged user wrote, “Some It can NOT be an accident that the first lady who hasn't given two f**ks about anything suddenly is having good round tables about a disease that mainly affect black people. Sorry Karen, not enough to save your husband's presidency.”
