‘Cancel him’: Internet slams new House Speaker Mike Johnson as Fox News’ Sean Hannity reports on his tribute to his father
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Mike Johnson, the evangelical Christian who won the House Speakership race on Wednesday, October 25, with the unanimous support of House Republicans, candidly told a story about his father, who was a firefighter in Shreveport, Louisiana.
While delivering remarks to his colleagues, the newly elected House Speaker paid a heartfelt tribute to his father while reflecting on his political career.
Following this news, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity took to X (formerly Twitter) to report more on Johnson’s speech.
However, the internet did not respond positively to what Johnson had to say about his father and brutally mocked him as some even wanted to “cancel him.”

Hannity’s tweet featured an article from his official website titled, “A Touching Tribute: New Speaker Mike Johnson Talks About His Father [WATCH].”
In the article, Hannity posted a clip of Johnson’s speech after being elected as the new House Speaker where he also spoke about his father and wife.
In his first speech, Johnson said, “I don’t believe there are any coincidences. I believe that God has ordained and allowed each one of us to be brought here for this specific moment in this time. This is my belief.”
He further added that his wife “spent the last couple weeks on her knees in prayer to the Lord, and she’s a little worn out.”
Johnson, the first college graduate in his family, is the son of a firefighter who was injured and left disabled in the line of duty when the Rep was just 12 years old.
While referring to his father, Johnson said, “All I ever wanted to be when I grew up was the chief of the fire department in Shreveport.” Unfortunately, the explosion that burned his father “changed all of our trajectories.”
