'Trump might be awarded Nobel Peace Prize for his death': Internet mocks POTUS after UN's food agency bags honor

President Donald Trump has missed out on winning the Nobel Peace Prize after the prestigious award was given to a United Nations food agency. Trump had been in the running for the award but lost out. The UN's food agency, the World Food Programme (WFP) won the Peace Prize for its efforts to alleviate hunger and try and improve conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas, Express reports. The prize is said to be worth ten million Swedish crowns or $1.1 million. 

It will be presented in Oslo on December 10, later this year. The WFP is based out of Rome and reportedly helps around 97 million people in over 88 countries every year. Many social media users flocked to various online platforms to mock Trump for losing the win. One such user had commented and shared, "He's prolly been sitting glued to the TV, awaiting the announcement, with a prepared victorious statement to tweet. And can't fathom that he, once again, didn't get it. So, yes, the twitter forecast is "Stormy"."

Another social media user shared, "Trump not happy about this award to a more deserving recipient. Trump hopes dashed and the election is also out of his reach. God's Awesome." Another social media user who echoed the same sentiments also wrote, "Meanwhile, in Washington DC, a certain someone is being told he won the Piece Prize (because he is a piece of work), just to calm him down and not start a war in the next 2 months. #25thAmendmentNow #TrumpIsANationalDisgrace #COVID19 #TrumpIsUnwell." "Trump's death would ring in peace and joy throughout the world. He might be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his death. Hey, a bit of encouragement never hurts," commented yet another social media user. 

The WFP agency says one in nine people throughout the world still do not have enough to eat. The chairwoman of the Berit Reiss-Andersen of the Norwegian Nobel Committee spoke to a news conference and said, "The need for international solidarity and multilateral cooperation is more conspicuous than ever." She also shared how the food program is a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict. The Nobel committee said in its citation, "The coronavirus pandemic has contributed to a strong upsurge in the number of victims of hunger in the world."

"Until the day we have a medical vaccine, food is the best vaccine against chaos. There is an estimate within the World Food Programme that there will be 265 million starving people within a year, so of course, this is also a call to the international community not to underfund the World Food Programme." The World Food Programme revealed that winning the coveted Nobel Peace Prize is a "proud moment nothing short of a feat".

Spokesman Tomson Phiri spoke at a briefing in Geneva and said, "The nomination in itself was enough but to then to go on and be named the Nobel Peace Prize winner is nothing short of a feat."
