‘No one is above law’: Internet hails response of Halyna Hutchins’ family to Alec Baldwin's charges
SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO: Actor Alec Baldwin will reportedly be charged with involuntary manslaughter over the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the sets of the movie 'Rust'. The film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez, will also be charged. According to lawyers for both, they intend to fight the charges in court.
Hutchins' family's response to the charges is being hailed on social media. Brian J Panish, an attorney for the Hutchins family, said on behalf of the family, according to People, "We want to thank the Santa Fe Sheriff and the District Attorney for concluding their thorough investigation and determining that charges for involuntary manslaughter are warranted for the killing of Halyna Hutchins with conscious disregard for human life."

"Our independent investigation also supports charges are warranted. It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law," Panish added. "We support the charges, will fully cooperate with this prosecution and fervently hope the justice system works to protect the public and hold accountable those who break the law."
"No one is above the law. Perfect!" one user said on Reddit in response to the statement. "I am more and more impressed by Halyna’s husband and family," another user wrote. One said, "Hear that, Aleeeeeeek? No one is above the law, no matter how much money you throw around to make killing an innocent woman seem like it wasn’t your fault."
"No names mentioned. Classy. Well done, we don’t need to hear anyone’s name but Halyna’s," one user said, while another replied, "I loved that touch. The lack of names speaks louder. Keep it about the victim and her family." "This is fantastic. "NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW" They're referring to YOU, Alec Baldwin," one user said. One wrote, "An incredibly powerful and poignant statement."
Baldwin, 64, who will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for Hutchins’ October 2021 death, could be behind bars for five years if he is convicted. Baldwin was charged “in the alternative," which means if the jury finds him guilty, they will have to choose between two charges. Involuntary manslaughter, the first charge, is a fourth-degree felony that carries a maximum sentence of 18 months behind bars. The second charge, involuntary manslaughter in the commission of a lawful act, also carries a sentence of up to 18 months in prison, but with a firearm enhancement to the charge, the actor could spend five years instead.
Reportedly, hours before the tragedy, the film crew had walked out of the set after firearms were accidentally discharged three times. This once even happened by Baldwin's stunt double, who had apparently been told that the firearm was not loaded. Firearms were accidentally discharged two other times in a closed cabin. Assistant director Dave Halls reportedly handed over the gun to Baldwin, unaware that it was loaded and instead claiming that it was safe to be used. Seconds later, the prop gun killed Halyna Hutchins.
