ALPHARETTA, GEORGIA: After participating in the GOP debates ahead of the presidential elections in 2024, Governor of Florida and GOP candidate Ron DeSantis is now on stage against Governor of California, Gavin Newsom.
Newsom and DeSantis are a part of Fox News’ debate, dubbed 'The Great Red vs Blue State Debate,' hosted by Sean Hannity, and right off the bat, DeSantis has questioned Newsom on why people are moving out of California, and other states.
In the course of this discussion, DeSantis also cited an incident involving Newsom's father-in-law, who had a previous encounter with the GOP candidate, prompting a swift response from the internet.
Ron DeSantis talks about a ‘fella’ who moved to Florida
During the 'The Great Red vs Blue State Debate,' hosted by Sean Hannity on Fox News, the Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis questioned the Governor of California Gavin Newsom on why people were moving from California to other states.
Following a short exchange between the contestants, DeSantis provided an example of an individual he had conversed with, who had transitioned from California to Florida.
DeSantis said, “I was talking to a fella who had made the move from California to Florida. He was telling me that Florida’s much better governed, safer, better budget, lower taxes, all this stuff.”

“And he was really happy with the quality of life,” said DeSantis before he continued, “and then he paused and said ‘said ‘Oh by the way, I’m Gavin Newsom’s father-in-law.’”
As Newsom simply smiled at this remark, DeSantis continued, “So we do count Gavin’s in-laws as some of the people that have fled California, and come to the state of Florida.”
