His post featured an article from The Hill that highlighted that McConnell and newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson are headed for a shutdown clash over Ukraine.
According to the piece, McConnell believes that we should support both Ukraine and Israel with military aid because he sees these conflicts as part of a bigger global problem.
He's been cautioning against the idea of Republicans getting into a fight with Democrats that might lead to a government shutdown because he thinks it would be harmful to the GOP's political standing.
On the other hand, Johnson prefers to "bifurcate" the matters of Ukraine and Israel. He has shown early approval for a temporary funding bill that would involve significant reductions in nondefense spending.
However, Democrats argue that this approach wouldn't stand a chance of being approved in the Senate.
Looking beyond the upcoming three weeks, McConnell aims to get the standard spending bills passed before Christmas, which would increase defense expenditure.
In contrast, Johnson has suggested the possibility of temporarily halting federal funding by using a stopgap measure that would last until either January or April.
