Around four years ago, Omar's Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District had given Trump only around 19% of the vote. Ever since 1972, Minnesota has not voted for a Republican presidential candidate. As reported by the Washington Post, Omar had made an effort to win against Trump by increasing a larger voter turnout for Joe Biden. While speaking to the publication, Omar said, "We don’t know each other, but he’s racist and xenophobic, so he hates everything I stand for." During the final days of the election, Omar tried to drive Trump's margin lower and delivered 300,000 votes for Biden and Kamala Harris' campaign.
The chairman of Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party shared, "She doesn’t need to increase turnout here to win her race. She could take a vacation and she’d get reelected, easy. But she recognizes that she has a responsibility to drive up turnout; it’s really important for all of our statewide races, especially the presidential race."
Omar drove up the results and won the state for Democratic nominee Biden.
Many social media users took to the comments section of Omar's Twitter post and supported her. One such user shared, "Sincerest Congratulations Congresswoman Omar!! I hope you continue to serve with honor and pride. Minnesota is lucky to have you!!"
Another added, "....and he said he'll never come back. We know he never keeps his word, but just the thought alone is lovely. Nice work. Your canvasing is (fire emoji)" Yet another commented, "Instead of “send her back” you are staying and we are sending HIM back to Florida!!!! This is your country and this is your victory!!!"

After news of Omar being re-elected in the Congress Minnesota’s 5th congressional district spread, she took to Twitter to share that "the results of this election are not the end,” but rather, “this is just the beginning." She added, "We are building a movement that sees my struggle as inherently tied to your struggle, and sees a world where all workers can be uplifted."
She had successfully managed to beat out her Republican challenger African American businessman Lacy Johnson.
She has a vocal speaker about the claims made by Republican figures which said that a Biden administration would be a "Trojan Horse of the radical Left" and would be easily influenced by her and other progressives. As a response to this, Omar had said, "I know that for them we’ve become sort of the boogeyman of the election, but it’s because of two thing."
"One, it’s because we are not backing down in holding this administration and the Republicans accountable and calling their hypocrisy out. But we also resonate with the challenges that everyday Americans are having," she added.
