Idaho robbery suspect dies and hostage hospitalized after car chase that led to MONTANA!

ST REGIS, MONTANA: A suspect was killed while another one was arrested in a shooting at a Conoco rest stop off I-90 in St Regis on Saturday, March 18. According to the Mineral County Sheriff's Office, the chase started in Osburn, Idaho. Commenting on it, Undersheriff Wayne Cashman said Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Idaho chased armed robbery suspects to the Idaho-Montana border.

Cashman reported that around 11.30 am, the Mineral County Sheriff's Office received a report of a car that was abandoned at the sewer plant in St Regis, as per NonStop Local. A caller told the officials that the suspects, a man and a woman, who had pulled off the robbery with two others, walked into a local hotel, but then split up. The woman stayed behind while the man headed to a travel center. The woman was arrested by one deputy, while others went behind the man at the travel center. When the officers tried to catch the man, he reportedly pulled out a weapon and took a hostage. After a standoff, he shot the hostage before officers shot and killed him. The hostage was rushed to a hospital in Missoula where the victim is going through treatment for multiple gunshot wounds.

St Regis residents advised to stay inside and lock their doors

Prior to the arrest and shooting of one suspect, a post on the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office's Facebook page advised the residents of St Regis residents to stay inside and lock their doors. The post read, "St Regis residents, there is a suspected armed robber in St Regis. Shots have been fired. Please stay inside and locked your doors! Law enforcement is on scene." They updated about two hours later that there is no continued threat to the public and wrote, "The community is now safe. More information to come at a later time." And added, “While there is no risk to public safety at this time, please avoid the travel center area in St Regis, as it is still an active crime scene."



 



 

The Montana Department of Justice is investigating 

No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident, officials said. As per NonStop Local, agencies that responded to the scene were Two Bear Air, Montana Highway Patrol, the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, Sander’s County Sheriff’s Office, and SWAT teams from Missoula and Kalispell. While the Montana Department of Justice is investigating the incident. Montana Highway Patrol Sgt Jay Nelson said, "All suspects are accounted for and the investigation has been turned over to the Montana Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation," reported Missioulian.
