Jojo has been in her transition period for a while now but she has been finding the transition mentally draining as her grandmother, Nora, has not been supportive throughout her journey. Even though her mother, Heather,  has been by her side through thick and thin, Jojo feels the need to get the approval of her grandmother if she wants to undergo a gender confirmation surgery.

Hearing how Nora's approval is really important for Jojo, Jazz decided that she would help Jojo to talk to her grandmother and try to make her understand how there is nothing wrong with getting surgery. As planned, Jazz and her mother, Jeanette Jennings arrive to meet Nora.

Jazz first asks Jojo to be open and honest about her feelings. Jojo explains that she does not feel comfortable in her skin and it is mentally draining for her to think that her body does not align with the idea of who she wants to be. She further revealed that there were times when she considered committing suicide because of the way she felt.

Jojo tried to explain it to her grandmother how the surgery would help her fall in love with herself. Unfortunately, Nora thought that what Jojo was feeling was just a "phase". Nora explained that Jojo was at the age where no one liked themselves and that it did not mean she should be thinking about surgery.

Jojo tried to defend her actions by stating that she has gender dysphoria, a mismatch that a person often feels that they do not identify with their gender identity to that of the one assigned to them at birth. Despite hearing this, Nora felt that everyone at a certain age feels the same way but surgery would not be the solution for it.

Jojo broke down crying as she was not able to make her grandmother understand the importance of the surgery. Meanwhile, Jeanette felt that Nora was not ready to listen to anyone and was wrapped in her own bubble. However, Jazz was yet to speak to Nora and whether she was able to convince Nora or not will be seen only in the next episode.

'I am Jazz' airs on Tuesdays at 9 pm ET on TLC.
