CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES: Among other horrifying new facts that was made public on Monday, January 23, authorities claimed that the shooter Huu Can Tran had a stockpile of "hundreds of rounds" of extra ammunition at his home and that he had fired at least 42 shots during the California ballroom massacre.

Tran, 72, chose to enter Star Ballroom Dance Studio on Saturday, January 21, and began shooting with a 9mm caliber, semi-automatic Mac-10 assault weapon, killing at least 11 people. During a press briefing on Monday (January 23) afternoon, law enforcement officials avoided discussing about a suspected motivation for the massacre, saying they don't yet have anything concrete but are still following up on leads. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna was asked if the shooter knew his victims, and his response was, "We're hearing there were possible relationships there, but I'm not going to confirm that yet because that's part of everything we're looking at."

Monterey Park massacre: Two of ten victims in California mass shooting identified

A police source previously informed LA Magazine that the mass shooter may have been searching for his wife at the time of the massacre in a suspected jealous rage. During the most recent news conference regarding the case, Luna stated that his office had heard that theory as well and is looking into it, but they were unable to confirm it.

Investigators examined the killer's home in Hemet during on Sunday, January 22, and discovered evidence that he appeared to be manufacturing "firearm suppressors" there. From Tran's home, they also retrieved a 308-caliber rifle, a massive amount of ammo, and a tons of gadgets, including computers and cell phones, Luna said.

Tran was confronted by authorities in Torrance, California earlier on Sunday, January 22 at which point he shot and killed himself inside his cargo van. A Norinco 7.6 X 2 handgun was found inside the van by the police. Luna asserted that Tran's only "limited criminal history" was a 1990 arrest for illegally possessing firearms.

Ten victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, and on Monday, January 23 one more victim died in the hospital from her injuries. Police officials claim that after killing those individuals, Tran headed to another location with the purpose of killing additional individuals.

Tran stormed inside the adjoining Lai Lai Ballroom & Studio, but 26-year-old Brandon Tsay bravely disarmed him to stop any additional murder. Tsay, who had never before handled a firearm, claimed it became evident right away that the shooter "wasn't here to rob us," as reported by the New York Post.
