Hunter Biden married new wife just six days after meeting her, says plans to be in 'honeymoon phase for a very long time'
In his first broadcast interview since coming under scrutiny over his business dealings in Ukraine, Hunter Biden stepped out with South African wife who he married just six days after meeting. In May this year, Biden secretly married Melissa Cohen, 33, in Los Angeles after meeting her via a mutual friend who wrote her number on his hand.
Hunter was instantly drawn to Melissa, and lost no time sharing with her how he struggled with the deaths of his mother, sister, and brother. Besides, he also opened up to her about his decades-long struggle with substance abuse, and how it resulted in his divorce.
"I instantly fell in love with her. And then I've fallen in love with her more every day," the 49-year-old told ABC News.
Hunter got a "shalom" tattoo inscribed on his person to match Melissa's just days after meeting her. According to the report, the duo got married at Cohen's apartment while a friend took photos of the ceremony on their cellphone. Hunter immediately called his presidential hopeful father, who gave the newly married couple his blessings and apparently thanked Melissa for "giving my son the courage to love again."
According to the couple, all three of Hunter's adult daughters have expressed their love for Melissa. Melissa, who hails from South Africa, recently became a US citizen in a ceremony attended by Hunter.
During the interview, Hunter was asked if he was, in fact, hiding from the controversy surrounding his family. "No, not at all," he replied. "I'm actually having an incredible extended honeymoon with my beautiful bride."
"I would call it the honeymoon phase, definitely," Melissa agreed. "Although, I have an inclination that I'm gonna be in the honeymoon phase for a very long time. Things have not been easy externally, but internally things have been amazing."
According to Melissa, the "truth will prevail" after her husband's dealings in Ukraine are thoroughly investigated. Nonetheless, she described Hunter as "an incredible human being" who "very much cares about this country and his family and his friends and his children."
