The vehicle by Hummer brand comes with a range of features and has been in the news for its resemblance with Tesla Cybertruck. Launch date to the specifications, here’s everything you need to know about Hummer EV.
Launch Date
Even though the buzz surrounding the supertruck is huge, GMC has reportedly said that Hummer EV Edition 1 will be available for pre-ordering only in 2021 and the vehicle will be available for delivery in 2022. Hummer EV3X will be available in fall 2022, Hummer EV2X in spring 2023 and the last version, Hummer EV2, will be made available in Spring 2024.
Price
Hummer EV will be available in four variants. Hummer EV Edition 1 will be sold at a suggested price of $112,595, while E3X will be available for $99,995. The later version, Hummer EV2X, comes at a suggested price of $89,995 and the final version, Hummer EV2, will be sold at a suggested price of $79,995.
Specifications
Hummer EV apparently has the longest battery of any GM vehicle with an electric powertrain. The intriguing ad also claims that the supertruck can hit 60 mph in just 3 seconds. The wheel steering allows diagonal driving through a feature called Crabwalk. The roof panels of the truck are removable and an air suspension system called Extract mode can raise the vehicle up to 6 inches. It is also equipped with hand-free driving and "can automatically change lanes on compatible roads".
Hummer EV boats 35-inch tires. GMC’s description states that the features help the vehicle navigate “extreme off-road situations such as clearing boulders or fording water". Besides, Hummer EV will reportedly have 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of torque. The other specifications as mentioned on GMC's official website include Ultravision with underbody cameras, an estimated 350+ mile range and infinity roof with modular sky panels. According to GM, one can charge the battery for nearly 100 miles in just 10 minutes.
One of Hummer EV’s most specific features is its extreme off-road capability, which is described by the automobile brand as, "Off-road dominance is engineered into every aspect of Hummer EV. A standard independent front and rear suspension will enable remarkable off-pavement handling and highway comfort, while available front e-lockers and virtual rear lockers optimize traction. Also, available heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts help maximize articulation and reduce steering feedback during heard concerning and off-roading."
Pre-buzz
The Hummer EV has met with mixed reactions on social media, with some praising GMC's new innovations, while others have been critical, drawing comparisons with Telsa Cybertruck.
One tweeted, "The new #HummerEV is consistent with the @GMC brand, both from visual and market positioning perspectives. And I like it more than I thought I would. But that roof, that is the highlight. Ideal bird watching rig @MatthewJohnB." Another added, "GMC just released the design and specs for the EV Hummer..... and I have never seen such a beautiful & powerful piece of machinery." One noted, "With the price of the Hummer EV EDITION 1, you can buy a Tesla CyberTruck Tri Motor + CyberTruck Single Motor." Another said, "New Hummer for new times. Looks less controversial than the Tesla Cybertruck for an EV truck. Not as efficient as the Tesla though, based on the range data. #HummerEV."
