Hugh Jackman says his feud with Ryan Reynolds started because of Scarlett Johansson
Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds not only share the most awesome bromance ever in Hollywood but they are also experts in trolling each other. For years, they have been jokingly slamming and trolling each other on social media, leaving their fans amused.
However, recently, during an interview, ‘The Wolverine’ actor revealed how the long-running rivalry began. Speaking with the Daily Beast, the 51-year-old shared that it all started because of his close friendship with Scarlett Johansson.
Johansson is Reynold’s ex-wife to whom he was married from 2008 to 2011 before tying the knot with Blake Lively in 2012.
When Jackman was asked about the funny rivalry between him and the ‘Deadpool’ star, and how it all started, he initially struggled to remember the specifics. However, soon he recalled the very first meeting with Reynolds and the details as well. “How did it start? It’s gone back so long now… God, this is a classic sign where your feud has gone too long, where you don’t even know why or how it started!” he told the American news and opinion website.
He further continued and said, “I met him back on Wolverine, and I used to ream him because I was very close friends with Scarlett [Johansson], and Scarlett had just married Ryan, so when he came on set I was like, Hey, you better be on your best behavior here, pal, because I’m watching, and we started ribbing each other that way, and then it all escalated with the Deadpool thing and him calling me out and trying to manipulate me through social media to do what he wanted.”
The Daily Beast interviewer also asked the father-of-two if he is now planning to hit back at Reynolds since he recently trolled him as he celebrated 24 years of his marriage with wife Deborra-Lee Furness on Instagram. To which Jackman replied saying, “I try to limit it to five hours a day, planning retribution. I’ve found in the past that it just gets unhealthy if it’s more than five hours of obsessing over how to get Ryan Reynolds. But five hours is good and healthy and keeps me strong and ready.”
Earlier this week, Jackman celebrated his 24th wedding anniversary with his 64-year-old wife. He posted a throwback picture of the couple and captioned it as, “These 24 years have been the best of my life! And, as far as I can see, we keep getting better. I love you, Debs, with every fiber of my soul. Happy anniversary. #24.”
As the post went online, people started pouring good wishes and luck to the couple, but Reynolds decided to take another route, commenting, "Hang in there, Deb."
In the same interview, Jackman also spoke about his quarantine time as he said, “Well, first of all, I think some gratitude that my family is all healthy—that’s the prevailing feeling I’m trying to cultivate to people who are out there doing all the work and allowing us to be at home. Apart from that, just trying to keep things as simple as possible and be together as a family, the four of us.”
He also revealed that he is not missing out on his workouts during the isolation period. “I do some workouts. I have a trainer who’s on FaceTime, so I do that. I’m lucky to have a rowing machine. Other than that, I’m just dancing in my living room.”
