So, who was Robert Wone, and what exactly happened to him? Let’s take a look.
Who was Robert Eric Wone?
Born on June 1, 1974, Robert Wone was a fourth-generation Chinese-American who was born in Manhattan and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He was a bright student and attended Xaverian High School for his graduation. Wone graduated as a valedictorian of his class and went on to attend the College of Willian & Mary. He met a man named Joseph Price there and they became friends instantly. Wone graduated from the college in 1996 and then received a Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania.
Wone began his professional journey by working as a law clerk to a judge at the Federal District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. After working for a while there, he changed his job and started working in commercial real estate law for six years.
In June 2006, he changed his job once again and now started working as a General Counsel for Radio Free Asia. It was a happy time for Wone because he married his girlfriend Katherine Ellen Yu in 2003 and the couple was living happily in Fairfax County, Virginia. However, things changed drastically for the Wone family as they suffered a loss that is beyond measure.
What happened to Robert Wone?
According to reports, Wone visited his college friend Joseph Price’s house after completing his shift. The reports also suggest that Wone was stabbed multiple times within two hours of his arrival at a rowhouse on Swann Street, which is located in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington D.C. The rowhouse was owned by Price, and his domestic partner Victor Zaborsky and they were living there with Dylan Ward. The trio was living in a polyamorous relationship as a family.
During the 11 pm newscast, a family living quite close heard a scream coming out of the rowhouse. The police records show that Zaborsky made a 9-1-1 call at 11:49 pm, and the paramedics arrived five minutes later. A few moments later, the officers from the Metropolitan Police Department also reached there to investigate the crime scene. A call was made to his wife and she rushed to the George Washington University Hospital where Wone was pronounced dead at 12:24 am.
According to the Police affidavits, Wone was “sexually assaulted” before his murder and claimed that the crime scene had been tampered with. Also, the paramedics found the behavior of Price, Zaborsky, and Ward pretty “unusual” because they were calm and none of them were screaming or helping the paramedics. During the interrogation, all three men denied having any sexual relationship with Wone and said that they had nothing to do with Wone’s death. Meanwhile, Wone’s family vehemently denied all the allegations of him being gay or bi-sexual and stated that he was “straight and happily married.”
After two years of investigation, the authorities finally charged Price, Zaborsky, and Ward with conspiracy to tamper with the crime scene and obstruction of justice in late 2008. However, all three men were acquitted of the charges in less than two years of time, and shockingly, no one has been charged with murdering Wone to date.
Wone’s murder case is one of the most mysterious murder cases in the history of the USA and is often called one of the most puzzling homicides in Washington’s history as well. Will the Peacock docuseries be able to help the authorities in finding some new information about the case and charge the people who actually killed Robert Wone? Well, we certainly hope so.
‘Who Killed Robert Wone?’ is scheduled to premiere on Peacock on Tuesday, March 7.
