LOS LUNAS, NEW MEXICO: Tyler East, a talented but troubled wrestler and MMA fighter, was shot dead on Monday, April 5, evening in his hometown of Los Lunas, police said.
The 30-year-old former MMA fighter was found dead in his residence which is about 25 miles south of Albuquerque, the New Mexico State Police said in a statement on Tuesday, April 6. The Valencia County Sheriff's Office reverted to a domestic violence call and found a woman and a man, later identified as East, suffering from gunshot wounds, the release said.
The New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau found out that East had shot his girlfriend, and then pulled her out of the house during a domestic dispute. He was then allegedly shot by another man at the residence. East was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. In the past 12 years, East had multiple run-ins with the law concerning alleged incidents of domestic violence. In 2009, East was accused of beating a fellow Belen High School student in a gym class. He pleaded no contest to a third-degree aggravated battery charge and was sentenced to three years’ probation, which he later violated when he used a fake ID. In 2012, East was jailed again on domestic violence charges after his ex-girlfriend claimed he was on a “cocaine binge” and physically assaulted her. East was accused of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, and bribery of a witness charges.
East is the brother of former UFC fighter Cody East. Tyler fought 21 times as a professional MMA fighter from 2009 to 2016 and got trained at JacksonWink MMA in Albuquerque. He made his pro debut at Bellator 3, scoring a first-round knockout against Amedeo Viola.
