How did Harry Hamlin land his own cooking show? ‘In the Kitchen’ star dishes on messy ‘RHOBH’ Bolognese feud
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actor, author and entrepreneur Harry Hamlin recently revealed the details of how he secured his very own cooking show 'In the Kitchen With Harry Hamlin'.
During a recent interview on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham, Harry Hamlin, who is 72 years old and known for his Emmy-nominated acting career, discussed the origins of his cooking show 'In the Kitchen with Harry Hamlin.' He disclosed that a chaotic incident on 'RHOBH' ultimately led to the creation of his own series.
“I assume that AMC came to you and was like, ‘Let's do a cooking show,’ in part, because you're famous for your bolognese on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,’” Cagle said.
The radio host was discussing an episode of the popular Bravo reality show 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' in which Harry Hamlin, was shown cooking a delicious bolognese sauce for the housewives. However, the situation quickly escalated when one of the housewives decided to take the leftovers of his tasty Italian dish home with her, causing tension and drama amongst the group.
Talking of the entire matter, Hamlin said, "It came from the fact that they asked me to cook lunch for those girls on the show. I made the bolognese and they really liked it."
The '80 for Brady' actor added, “I mean, Garcelle Beauvais loved it. And then it became a whole thing.”
Hamlin mentioned there was was a conflict regarding the sauce that ultimately resulted in AMC executives being intrigued by its quality. This curiosity led them to propose the idea of giving Hamlin his own cooking show so they could taste the sauce for themselves.
“Julia was reminding me of the fight over your bolognese on Real Housewives and who was it that wasn't appreciative?” Cagle questioned.
Cunningham elaborated on the events of the 'RHOBH' episode, highlighting how Hamlin went to great lengths to prepare a stunning lunch, featuring a montage of the women expressing their admiration for the delicious bolognese.
Garcelle was even lucky enough to take some home with her. However, Lisa Rinna, Hamlin's wife who is no longer on the show, felt slighted by the lack of a proper apology for the bolognese incident, leading to a heated argument.
Hamlin interrupted the conversation, stating that the root of the disagreement was actually the tickets to the Elton John gala.
“So, Garcelle decided to join in with that person who said that we hadn't thanked them for Elton John and since that became a thing, then Lisa said, ‘But wait a minute. You never thanked us for the bolognese sauce,’" he added.
While responding to her apology, Hamlin wrote, "Hi Garcelle. No worries. I never, ever expect thank you or acknowledgement. I'm just glad you like my sauce."
He continued, “This show brings out the best and the worst in us and in the long run, it's a learning experience that must not be taken too seriously. I say as long as the cheques don't bounce, have at it. Our friendship is safe and sound.’ That was my text to Garcelle."
The 'In the Kitchen with Harry Hamlin' star went on to say, “Well, the whole thing was baloney to begin with, but here's the thing. It made my sauce really famous."
Cunningham chimed in, "I mean, you got a show out of it. That's insane."
Hamlin concluded, "Not only did I get a show out of it, but I got sauce off it because the sauce is coming out. It just came off the assembly line three days ago, and yeah, it's coming out."

What is the recipe of 'In the Kitchen' star Harry Hamlin's Bolognese?
Harry Hamlin's renowned recipe for Spaghetti Bolognese is considered a culinary work of art. If you want to bring a taste of Hollywood into your home, try making Harry Hamlin's famous spaghetti Bolognese. This recipe is known for its delicious flavors and its special place in Hamlin's family traditions. Let's explore the recipe that has been enjoyed by many for years.
The recipe calls for one pound of lean ground beef and one tablespoon of olive oil, one onion that is large in size and has been finely chopped, two carrots that have been chopped into small pieces.
Finely chopped 2 stalks of celery, four minced garlic cloves, 1 cup of high-quality red wine, such as Chianti, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, a single can of crushed tomatoes, measuring 28 ounces, one cup of beef broth, one teaspoon of dried oregano, one teaspoon of dried basil, salt and black pepper, red pepper flakes, spaghetti, parmesan cheese, and fresh basil leaves.
Cook the chopped onion, carrots, and celery in olive oil over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes until they start to soften.
Add the ground beef to the skillet alongside the sautéed vegetables. Cook the beef, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is browned and fully cooked and then, mix the minced garlic and tomato paste together and cook for a minute until the garlic is fragrant and the tomato paste is fully mixed in.
Pour red wine into the skillet to remove any browned bits from the bottom. Let the wine simmer for a few minutes until it reduces slightly. Then, bring the crushed tomatoes, beef broth, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if desired) to a simmer in the skillet.
Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer gently for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally. This slow cooking process allows the flavors to blend and creates a flavorful sauce.
Cook the spaghetti in a separate pot until it is slightly firm. Drain the pasta and save a cup of the cooking water.
Mix the cooked spaghetti with the sauce in a pot, gently tossing to combine. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the pasta cooking water to help coat the pasta evenly.
Serve the hot spaghetti Bolognese with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves as garnish.
